The Central Dragons and Penns Valley Rams faced off Friday night in a Mountain League matchup that saw Central coming out with a huge victory to move them to 6-0 on the season. The Dragons led by Sophomore quarterback Jeff Hoenstine. Before Friday night’s game, Hoenstine had accounted for 1,353 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and one interception along with 181 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Friday was no different as he accounted for over 300 yards of total offense and six touchdowns. The Rams offense struggled and couldn’t find a groove.

The scoring started late in the first quarter of Friday’s game. The Dragons drove down the field and were led by a big run by Dragon’s Junior running back Parker Gregg down to the one-yard line. The very next play Hoenstine would score his first touchdown of the night rushing in from one yard out. The point-after attempt was good by Austin Keith making the score 7-0 Dragons with 5:52 to go in the first quarter. The Rams couldn’t capitalize on their next drive and were forced to give the Dragons the ball back. The Rams defense came up big and shut down Hoenstine for four consecutive plays on the 10-yard line. The Rams would turn the ball over their next three possessions. The first was right at the beginning of the second quarter on a trick play when Rams Senior Mason Lieb heaved the ball down the field and was intercepted by Dragons Senior Demetrious Harbaugh. The Dragons gave the ball back to the Rams on a punt and the ensuing drive, another interception this time off a deflected pass by Freshman Hunter Smith. The Dragons would use the field position and capitalize from 33 yards out when Hoenstine connected with Harbaugh for his second touchdown of the night. The point-after attempt was good by Keith giving the Dragons a 14-0 lead with 4:05 to go in the half. The second quarter ended with the third interception by the Dragons defense this time it was Junior Josh Biesinger.

To start the opening half the Rams kickoff team ran a squib kick and was recovered by Central but the runner ended up fumbling and the Rams recovered on the Dragons 45-yard line. The Rams wasted no time. Senior Seth Baney took the ball from 41 yards out for the Rams touchdown. The point-after attempt by Aidan Brinker was good, making the score 14-7 just 41 seconds into the third quarter. The Dragons offense would score four consecutive times in a row to run away with the game. The first touchdown came the very next drive after the Rams touchdown when Hoenstine connected with Sophomore Eli Lingenfelter from 25 yards out for his third touchdown on the night. The point-after attempt was no good making the score 20-7 with 10:40 to go in the third quarter. Hoenstine’s fourth touchdown of the night came from 16 yards out when he connected with Junior Devon Boyles. The Dragons converted on a two-point conversion pushing the lead to 28-7 with 7:06 to go in the third quarter. The Dragons next possession resulted in Hoenstines’ fifth touchdown of the night when he connected with Junior Devon Boyles from 16 yards out. The point-after attempt was good by Keith making the score 35-7. Hoenstine’s sixth and final touchdown of the night was from 16 yards out when he connected with Gregg with 8:15 to go in the fourth quarter. Keith’s extra point attempt was good making the score 42-7. The Rams offense would find some life late in the game when Sophomore Kollin Brungart took the ball from 11 yards out with 3:12 left to go in the game. The two-point conversion was no good making the score 42-13 which would be the final score of the game. The Central Dragons improve to 6-0 on the year and will face Tyrone next Friday. The Rams drop to 1-3 on the year and will face Huntingdon next Friday.
