In the first quarter, Jefferson Morgan started with the ball and drove it to midfield, but the South Side defense pressured quarterback Houston Guesman on a third and long, causing a fumble and a recovery by junior Cody Mehlmauer for South Side. South Side converted on the turnover, ending the drive in the endzone on a one-yard touchdown run by Mateja Pavlovich to give South Side the early 7-0 lead with 6:08 left to go of the first quarter. On Jefferson Morgan’s second drive, South Side’s defense quickly responded in a big way with a pick-six by junior Will Morgan to make it a 14-0 with 5:04 left to go of the first quarter. Jefferson Morgan’s offense continued to struggle on their third drive and quickly punted the ball back to South Side in the closing minutes of the first quarter.

South Side, on their second drive on offense, punched it in for six thanks to a rushing touchdown by Andrew Corfield. The extra point attempt was blocked to keep it a 20-0 lead for South Side with 7:27 left to go of the second quarter. Jefferson Morgan’s offensive struggles were still going with their first play of their drive was intercepted and taken back to their nine-yard line. South Side hit paydirt in response to the interception on a two-yard rushing touchdown by freshman running back Amare Moman, and with the extra point going right down the middle gave South Side a 27-0 lead with 5:56 left to go of the second quarter.

Jefferson Morgan responded fourteen seconds later on special teams with a ninety-nine-yard kick return touchdown by junior wide receiver Deakyn Dehoet. The two-point conversion attempt was short to keep it a 27-6 lead for South Side with 5:40 left to go in the second quarter. Jefferson Morgan forced a fumble on South Side’s next drive but couldn’t get a first down and punted it back to South Side. South Side made it down to midfield and threw a deep ball downfield in the final minute of the second quarter when Deakyn Dehoet intercepted it to keep South Side off the scoreboard on the drive and take it to the locker room down 27-6.

Jefferson Morgan forced South Side to punt at the start of the third quarter, but another costly fumble was scooped up by South Side. Both team’s offenses struggled in the third quarter, but Jefferson Morgan got the board first with a thirty-one-yard touchdown caught by Johnny Gilbert to make it a 27-14 game with 3:55 left to go of the third quarter after a two-point conversion attempt was caught by Gilbert as well.

South Side, however, responded with the first play of the fourth quarter on a one-yard rushing touchdown on fourth and goal was run in by running back Andrew Corfield, but the extra point was blocked to make it a 33-14 game with 14:53 left to go of the fourth quarter. Deakyn Dehoet scored his second touchdown of the game on a thirty-eight-yard touchdown and, with a successful two-point conversion, gave South Side a 33-22 lead with 5:13 left to play in the fourth quarter. South Side got the ball back after Jefferson Morgan’s failed onside kick attempt and drove it into the endzone by Amare Moman to make it a 39-22 game with 34.5 seconds to go of the fourth quarter. Jefferson Morgan responded just seventeen seconds later with wide receiver Deakyn Dehoet scoring his third touchdown of the game. Jefferson Morgan successfully converted on a two-point conversion to make it a 39-30 game. However, the comeback attempt by Jefferson Morgan falls short as #11 South Side defeats #6 Jefferson Morgan 39-30. South Side will play #3 Bishop Canevin on Friday at 7 p.m.
