
Jenkintown overwhelms an undermanned Columbia-Montour Vo Tech squad

Behind running back Quinn Echert’s four touchdown performance, the Drakes dismantled the Rams Saturday afternoon.
SOUTH CENTRE TWP- The Jekintown Drakes made the long trip up from the Philadelphia area, with just their fifteen players, to face the Columbia-Montour Area Vo-Tech Rams Saturday afternoon at Wen Cerra Memorial Stadium. The Rams themselves missing several key players and when the dust settled the Drakes would have earned themselves a convincing 55-22 victory in a District 1/4 cross-over game.
Jenkintown opened the scoring on their initial drive, following an 43 yard run by Manny Bowens that got the Drakes inside the red zone, Bowens capped the drive with an elevin yard run, to make it 7-0 at the 8:29 mark of the quarter.
The Rams would answer right back on a six-play 87 yard drive of their own that culminated in a 32 yard touchdown pass from Myles Koser to Axton Koser and with the two-point conversion made it 8-7 at the 3:50 mark.

In the second quarter the visitors began to pull away by scoring five times in twelve minutes. Bowens would be on the receiving end of a 32 yard pass from Liam McIntyre that ended a seven play 62 yard drive, the conversion pass from McIntyre to Wesley Ritter made it 15-8.
The Drakes took advantage of outstanding field position in the quarter. Four times Jenkintown started drive in Rams territory and converted each time with the furthest drive being 24 yards away from the end zone. Running back Quinn Echert started his scoring barrage on an 16 yard touchdown run the PAT was good bringing the score to 22-8 at the 10:37 mark. The Drakes outgained the Rams on the ground by a margin of 164 to minus 10 in the contest
McIntyre the popped in a score from two yards out after taking over possession at the Vo Tech ten yard line making the score 28-8 after two-point try failed leaving score 28-8 with 8:57 left before halftime.
Echert would find the paydirt once again following a drive that start on the Ram 16. He would go in from 11 yards out, the PAT was missed leaving the score 34-8 with just over five minutes left in the quarter. Echert finished the game with 92 yards rushing on just 11 touches and the four touchdowns.
The only drive that stated on the other side of midfield, McIntyre hooked up with Ritter for a 51 yard touchdown pass this time the extra-point was good bring the score to 41-8 at the at the 2:54 mark. McIntyre completed 9 of 16 passes for 223 yards and two scores as the Drakes out gained the Rams 382 to 194 total offense.

Echert would close the scoring in the quarter with a 24 yard touchdown with just twenty-five seconds to go before intermission making it 48-8 and putting the game into running clock in the second half.

The Drakes weren’t quite finished in the third quarter as Echert would score his fourth and final score on the afternoon from 13 yards out making a it a 55-8 score with 6:26 left in the quarter.
Vo Tech did have a couple of positive plays before this game was through Myles Koser again would find a wide open Axton Koser for a 30 yard score at the 1:28 mark of the third quarter. Koser threw for 194 yard on 6 of 14 passing and 3 touchdowns. Axton caught his only two passes for 63 yards and the two scores Koser the completed a 68 yard touchdown pass to Blake Sponenberg, who made a nifty one-handed catch near midfield and out-raced the fender to the end zone to close out the scoring

“Both sides of the ball with our 15 guys and both playing hard start to finish. All the guys getting reps that is how we beat teams like this.” Head coach Joe Cawley stated after the game.”
Jenkintown now goes to 2-4 on the season and will face New Hope-Solebury next week. The Lions(1-5) dropped a 22-13 decision to Morrisville. Columbia-Montour Vo Tech (3-3) lost their second straight game after starting 3-1 will be at home against Cowanesque Valley (2-4). The Indians coming off a loss to Wellsboro 37-15
