Jersey Shore, Pa.- After a three game road stretch at the start of their season, the Jersey Shore Bulldogs (4-1) were happy to return home for their first home game in 27 days. But it would not be an easy game, as they were set to face off against a revitalized (3-2) Shikellamy team looking to make a statement. The Braves were coming off a major 35-14 win over Williamsport, meanwhile the Bulldogs were a week removed from a heartbreaking 42-41 loss to undefeated Shamokin.

While it was a slug fest first half that saw the Bulldogs trail at the end of the first quarter, they kicked into high gear in the second half. Thanks in large part to the efforts of Bo Sechrist and a great defensive game, Shore would beat the Braves 42-14 on Friday, Sept. 19th.

It was a fast start for the Shore, with Sechrist scoring on a 73-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game. After that initial burst both defenses settled in, as it quickly became a punt fest in Thompson Street Stadium.

Shikellamy would capitalize on a Shore mistake at the end of the first, as a bad snap on a punt attempt set the Braves up inside the five yard line. Star receiver Thomas Pollack scored a 3-yard TD on the very next play, giving Shik a 7-6 lead thanks to a Bulldogs missed extra point.

Then, after another bunch of punts the Bulldogs were able to find the end-zone again, with receiver Carson Watkins taking a screen pass 33-yards to the house. After a successful two-point conversion Jersey Shore would go into the half up 14-7.

In the first half Jersey Shore’s offense was struggling in a big way, not finding many lanes to run through and consistently stalling on 3rd down. But if this Bulldogs team has proven to be anything it is resilient, and they came out of the second half with their hair on fire.

Sechrist opened up the second half scoring with a bang, taking a 57-yard rush to the house and put the Bulldogs up 21-7. From there it was smooth sailing for the Shore, as they tacked on three more TDs. Two of those came from back-up running back Kash Herrit scoring on 11 and 57-yard runs respectfully. The third was a five yard score from Sechrist, his third of the game.

Shamokin did manage another score as well thanks to a 78-yard catch and run by Pollock, but that would be the lone score of the second half for the Braves.

Defensively it was a complete game from Jersey Shore, with all 11 players on that side having great games. Some individual standouts were Watkins, as well as linebackers Conner Yingling and Luke Thompson. Watkins was able to snag two INTs in the game, meanwhile Yingling and Thompson did a great job getting pressure off the edge in both the run and pass game.

Overall it was a complete team win for the Bulldogs, and after the game Jersey Shore head coach Tom Gravish sounded happy with how his team performed despite the first half struggles.

“[I’m] proud of our kids. we said [at halftime] there’s a lot of great football teams out there that sputter in the first half. We realized we weren’t playing our best football and we challenged our guys. Hats off to everyone in the organization for sticking together and creating that second half.”

Gravish also went on to highlight after the game that his team is taking a road trip tomorrow following the win down to the Virginia versus Stanford game down in Charlottesville on Saturday, Sept. 20th . Saying “There is a little bit of fun stuff alongside all of the hard work.”

Next up for Jersey Shore they will make the short 30 minute trip to Williamsport, PA. to take on the (4-1) Millionaires. Kickoff for that one is scheduled for 7 P.M. EST.
