Coal Township, Pa.- It was a 2025 season to remember for both the (8-4) Jersey Shore Bulldogs and the (12-0) Shamokin Indians, with both teams seemingly on a collision course to meet again in the District Championship for the second time in as many years. Last years quad A district title would end in a controversial win for the Indians on a blocked field goal, that many Shore fans argued should have been called back due to an uncalled offside penalty. Now almost a full year later, Shore would have their chance to enact revenge. But with all the hype surrounding the game, things ended in heartbreak for the Bulldogs, an early injury to star QB Nolan Pauling put a muzzle on the Dogs’ hopes, as Shamokin would go on to win 37-0.

It was a first quarter to forget from the Jersey Shore perspective. After a quick three and out on their opening drive Shore was forced to punt it away near their own ten yard line, but a bad snap sent the ball over the head of the punter Luke Ryan and out of the back of the endzone for a safety. Shamokin would be quick to capitalize on their next drive, a surgical drive down the field led them in range for an 8-yard Zakem Clinton touchdown run to put the Indians up 9-0 just six minutes into the game.

The Jersey Shore offense would find some life on their ensuing drives, as Pauling began to use his legs to drive the Bulldogs down the field. But as the second quarter began, a strip sack by defensive end Robert Whitmer ended Jersey Shore’s drive inside the Shamokin redzone. That drive would mark the only time the Bulldogs would get that close to the goal line.

After a few stalled drives from both sides, disaster struck, as Pauling would be knocked out of the game early on a routine hit. In his absence starting receiver Carson Watkins was tasked to try and get his team back into the game.

Being down their starting QB proved detrimental to the Bulldogs chances, as without their commander they could not get off the starting blocks. Without the threat of the pass Shamokin crashed down hard on the Jersey Shore rushing attack. After a game were he ran for over 280 yards versus Athens, running back Bo Sechrist couldn’t find his footing against the Indians.

While the Shore offense was stuck in neutral Shamokin’s began to start clicking in the second half, as QB Logan Steele began to take over the game on the ground. Steele, a three star recruit, has been the main offensive engine for the Indians this season, and he was again on Friday night.

While the Shamokin offense got going, their defense locked down, getting a standout performance from corner Colin Steinhart. Steinhart ended with five INTs in the game, a school record,  including a pick six.

After the game Jersey Shore head coach Tom Gravish talked about how proud he was of his group and the season they had.

“Hats off to our seniors, they set a great example for others to follow. They should feel proud of winning eight football games and making our 12th district title game in the last 14 years.”

Jersey Shore’s season will, for the second time in two years, end at the hands of Shamokin in the district title. As the Bulldogs year comes to an end a new season begins for the Indians, as they set to match up next week against Bellefonte in the first round of states.
