Williamsport, PA.- The Jersey Shore Bulldogs (5-1) took to the road on Friday, Sept. 27th, making the 30 minute drive to Williamsport to take on the (4-2) Millionaires.  After an eventful 48 minutes of play, it was the Bulldogs who came out victorious, beating Williamsport 67-40 in what will be a game to remember.

It was a nightmare start for the Shore, throwing back to back interceptions on their opening two drives of the game. However, just like last week versus Shikellamy, once the Bulldog offense got going, it was unstoppable.

Quarterback Nolan Pauling got the scoring started, as he took in a 9-yard rushing touchdown to give Jersey Shore a 7-0 lead with 3:18 seconds in the first quarter. Later on in the quarter running-back Kash Herrit took a 65-yard run to the house and after the first Jersey Shore led 14-0.

After another few stalled out drives, and facing a second and forever on their own 9-yard line, things felt hopeless for the Millionaires offense. But right when they needed a spark they found an explosion, as receiver Ashton Thomas hauled in an incredible 91-yard touchdown catch to cut the deficit to seven with five minutes left in the second quarter

That Thomas touchdown completely opened the flood gates, and both offenses began to rain down scores. Bulldogs’ Bo Sechrist got the party started with a 42-yard touchdown catch, then on the very next play Millionaires quarterback Tevin Williams ran in a 68-yard score. Another rushing score from Pauling made it a combined 21 points in only one minute of game time, and meant that Jersey Shore held a 28-14 lead going into the half.

The second half only continued the madness, with both teams combining for 65 points in the half, many of those scores coming via explosive plays. Sechrist scored a trio of rushing touchdowns in the third, and wide out Connor Winters hauled in a 50-yard touchdown catch to put Jersey Shore up 55-14. It also should be noted the final three scores came on back-to-back-to-back drives, with Williamsport’s offense never being able to touch the field. The reason for that being Jersey Shore managed to pull off two straight accidental onside kicks to keep possession.

Starting kicker Jayden Passetti was attempting to squib his kickoffs to try to prevent any long returns since Williamsport had been doing well on kickoffs. However, on his first attempt he mis-hit the ball, and it ended up being a line-drive that hit off the leg of a Millionares up-man and bounced right back to Passetti as he was able to fall on it. Then after the Winters score the same thing happens again, this time bouncing off a Port players chest right back to the Bulldogs. While it certainly looked intentional on the field, after the game Shore head coach Tom Gravish confirmed it was not planned.

In the fourth quarter it looked like both offenses were playing eleven on zero, as neither defense provided any resistance. Williamsport took advantage of multiple blown coverages and a forced fumble to bring the game to 61-40 with five minutes left in the game. Despite the valiant effort to pull of a miracle, it just was not enough as the Bulldogs ground game chewed up the rest of the clock, with a final touchdown from back-up running back Jayce Fetzer providing the icing on the cake.

After the game coach Gravish gave his thoughts, and while he noted there were things to clean up, he was certainly happy his team was able to pull off the win.

“Scoring 67 really wasn’t something we ever thought would happen, but we didn’t think we would give up [40] either. We’ll learn from it, it wasn’t easy but we will take the win.”

Things don’t get easier for the Bulldogs next week, as they return home to take on (6-0) Hollidaysburg in a game that is shaping up to be an all timer. Kickoff will be next Friday (Oct. 3rd) with kickoff slated for 7 P.M.
