WEST CHESTER: Connor Noble knows firsthand just how dangerous Cooper Jordan can be. Noble competed against Jordan back in their high school days when Noble was a defensive leader for Downingtown East and Jordan was a star playmaker on neighboring Bishop Shanahan. Fortunately for the West Chester Golden Rams they have both of them on their side and on Saturday afternoon Jordan put on a show having a hand in all 5 of the Golden Rams touchdowns while Noble (12 tackles) led a dominating defensive effort has the Rams made sure their home opener was an happy one easily defeating the Seton Hill Griffins 34-16 at Tomlinson-Fillippo Field at John A Farrell stadium.

“It’s way better to play with than against him,” Noble said of Jordan, adding, “He’s a tough guy to play against, I know from experience.”

After both teams traded punts on their opening possessions, the Golden Rams started what became routine thing in the first half for their offense, scoring drives. On the Golden Rams’ second drive, they marched 55 yards on 6 plays with Jordan’s legs getting them on the board with his 18-yard touchdown run.

The Griffins did respond on their second drive, piecing together an 8-play, 57-yard 8-play before the Rams defense tightened up and forced the Griffins to settle for a 35-yard field goal by Rayyan Bataineh.

From that point on, the Golden Rams took over, exploding for 20 unanswered points in the rest of the first half. Cooper’s arm started off the onslaught with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jamir Robertson that capped a 5-play 59-yard drive. On the next possession , Cooper’s legs did the damage, scoring from 3 yards out to put the Golden Rams up 20-7. Then on the next possession, Cooper extended the Golden Rams’ lead to 27-3 when he connected with Matthew Iuvara for a 41-yard touchdown.

At halftime, the numbers were heavily in favor of the Golden Rams. Not only did Golden Rams rack up 257 total yards of offense, in which Jordan was had 223 of the yards, but Noble and Golden Rams’ defense limited the Griffins to 97 yards of total offense.

In the third quarter, the Griffins did cut into the Golden Ram lead with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Boden St Marie to Isaiah Cherry.

With 1:39 left to play, Jordan put the cherry on top of the Golden Rams’ victory when he found Robby Longo for a 20-yard touchdown. In total, Jordan finished with 224 yards passing and 3 touchdowns to go along with 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Jordan drew comparisons to Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson from his head coach, Duke Greco, who said. “He is (two-time NFL MVP) Lamar Jackson. He is dangerous. And he doesn’t just run; he can run for touchdowns. He is a scary player, and I’m glad he is on our side.” Greco added, “He is just dynamic, and he’s a nightmare (to defend), But as good of a player as he is, he is a better leader and hard worker.”

Next week, the Golden Rams head on the road for the third time in their first four games when they head to Millersville to open PSAC East Division play.
