“Defense wins championships baby, offense wins football games”. That’s what Kipp head coach Paul Bresil said after his Lions defense put on a show. Andrew Morency had three sacks and was a terror all night long for the Owls. “I just visualize and attack. I’m just going for the backfield, heads up” said Morency of his performance tonight. The 14-0 performance added to the defensive onslaught that the Lions have been dishing out. After two losses, Kipp has scored 148 unanswered points in their last four games.

The game didn’t start off well for either team. Both teams started with the center sending the ball over the head of the person the snap was intended for. Kipp messed up a punt snap and Edison had a shotgun snap go over the quarterbacks head. Both played ended up in turnovers. On their next series, the Owls offense had it’s only extended drive of the night. Starting at their 45 Edisdon drove all the way to the Kipp 18 but fumbled the ball away.

It looked like the Owl defense, led by 6-5, 230 pound defensive end Wilmer Basilio who sacked the Kipp quarterback on the 6, was going to get the ball in good field position. However, on the next play Nafis Owens hit Amear Miller with a short pass. He beat the defender and was off to the races for a 94 yard td. The Lions missed the two point play but held a 6-0 lead with 7:22 left in the second quarter. That’s where we stood at the halftime break.

The second half was more of the same for both teams. Neither team managed much offense. It was more of a field position battle until late in the game when Kipp forced a fumble deep in in Owl territory. Shamir White burst through the middle of the Owl defense and went 15 yards for the score to seal the win. They got the two point play after the td.

“It starts at the defensive line” said Edison head coach Jake Weaver of his defenses performance. “It’s a lot of the same mistakes we’ve been seeing all year. We have to clean that up on offense”.

Kipp-Dubois will look to extend it’s shutout streak to 5 against 4-1 Morrisville while Edison looks to rebound with Dobbins.
