Kotsko’s View of the WVC: 2023 Week 8 Stormy Weather

Outside of one week, the weather has been pretty good on Friday night. Although we should have no issues this Friday, it’s Saturday where the games will be affected with rain. As the temperature drops, the stakes of the games heat up. Several teams are competing for for playoff spots and seeding in the final three weeks of the season. With all that being said, let’s get into the games for week number eight!!

Dallas at Wallenpaupack

Fri 7 PM

Dallas is coming off a win over Berwick. Mountaineers running back Dylan Geskey has 705 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns for the 2023 campaign. Buckhorns running back Dylan Podrazil is rushing for 627 yards and nine touchdowns on the year. Dallas is currently the three seed and looking to stay undefeated on the season. Wallenpaupack is currently out of a playoff spot but a win here could help propel them to a postseason berth.

Prediction: Dallas 35 Wallenpaupack 14

Valley West at Hazleton Area

Fri 7 PM

Valley West lost to Williamsport last week. Hazleton Area is coming off a close loss to Crestwood. Spartans wideout Ty Makarewicz has 11 catches for 166 yards and a touchdown. Cougars quarterback Austin Wilson has 716 yards and eight touchdowns. He also has 388 yards rushing with four touchdowns. Both teams are currently looking for their second win of the season. Which team will come out on top?

Prediction: Hazleton Area 28 Valley West 14

Wyoming Area at Lake-Lehman

Fri 7 PM

Wyoming Area stayed undefeated with a road victory over Holy Redeemer. Lake-Lehman is coming off a loss to Pittston Area. Warriors running back Aaron Crossley has 1,025 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on the season. Black Knights quarterback Hayden Evans is throwing for 499 yards and six touchdowns on the season. Wyoming Area is currently second in the District 2 4A Standings and has a great spot to host two playoff games. Lake-Lehman is currently 5th in the District 2 3A Standings and hoping to get up to the four spot in the final three weeks.

Prediction: Wyoming Area 35 Lake-Lehman 7

Crestwood at Hanover Area

Fri 7 PM

Crestwood defeated Hazleton Area last week. Hanover Area got a forfeit win over Montrose. Comets running back James Barret has 411 yards rushing and three touchdowns this season. Hawkeyes running back Jayden Skipalis is rushing for 538 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season. Crestwood sees themselves in fourth of the District 2 4A Standings. Hanover Area is currently 3rd in the District 2 3A Standings and looking to keep that with a big upset at home.

Prediction: Crestwood 35 Hanover Area 6

Wilkes-Barre Area at Williamsport

Fri 7 PM

Wilkes-Barre Area is coming off a loss to Delaware Valley. Williamsport defeated Valley West last week. Wolf Pack quarterback Jake Howe has thrown for 1,063 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also has three rushing touchdowns. Millionaires wideout Kyreek Bradshaw has 39 catches for 375 yards and five touchdowns. Both 6A teams are looking to improve their playoff positioning. Williamsport is currently hold the 9 spot which have them out of the Subregional playoffs. Wilkes-Barre Area is currently 6th in the subregional standings. A win here by either team can propel them to the playoffs.

Prediction: Wilkes-Barre Area 21 Williamsport 14

Pittston Area at Tunkhannock

Fri 7 PM

Pittston Area got the victory over Lake-Lehman. Tunkhannock is coming off a loss to Nanticoke. Patriots wideout Lucas LoPresto has 24 catches for 417 yards and four touchdowns. Tigers running back Logan Ross has 919 yards and nine touchdowns on the year. Both teams have their classification’s final playoff spot and a win here can solidify their chances of making the postseason.

Prediction: Pittston Area 28 Tunkhannock 14

Danville at Berwick

Fri 7 PM

Berwick lost to Dallas last week. Danville is coming off a shutout win over Montoursville. Ironmen running back Bo Sheptock is rushing for 614 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. Bulldogs quarterback Ethan Lear has 547 yards and two touchdowns in the air. He also has 310 yards on the ground and four touchdowns. The Bulldogs are currently 9th in the District 2 4A standings but it’s a very close call between Berwick and Tunkhannock. Danville comes in with one loss and looking to improve to 7-1.

Prediction: Danville 35 Berwick 7

Nanticoke at Holy Redeemer

Sat 7:30 PM

Nanticoke is coming off a victory over Tunkhannock. Holy Redeemer is coming off a loss to Wyoming Area. Trojans running back Zack Fox has 1,038 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season. Royals quarterback Thomas Dugan has 608 passing yards and seven total touchdowns. Nanticoke is currently 5th in the District 2 4A Standings. Holy Redeemer is looking for their first win of the season.

Prediction: Nanticoke 35 Holy Redeemer 6
