Hard to believe we’ve hit the midway point of the 2023 High School football season. As the leaves begin to change, the temperature starts to drop, it’s going to be a fun five weeks. Pretty soon, we will be talking some playoffs as we hit October. I usually run out of ideas of what to write at this point so as I’m already rambling on as is, let’s get into the WVC matchups of Week 6.

 

Lake-Lehman at Tunkhannock

Fri 7 PM

Lake-Lehman is coming off a loss to Nanticoke. Tunkhannock lost at Honesdale last week. Black Knights quarterback Hayden Evans is throwing for 385 yards and five touchdowns. Tigers running back Logan Ross is rushing for 723 yards and eight touchdowns. Lake-Lehman is looking to bounce back after a rough first half of the year. Tunkhannock is looking to rebound after their three game winning streak was snapped.

Prediction: Tunkhannock 28 Lake-Lehman 14

Scranton at Wyoming Area

Fri 7 PM

Scranton is coming off a victory over North Pocono. Wyoming Area stayed undefeated with a victory at Hanover Area. Knights quarterback Billy Maloney is throwing for 558 yards and eight touchdowns. He also has 528 yards and seven touchdowns. Warriors running back Aaron Crossley is rushing for 686 yards and 13 touchdowns. Wyoming Area is looking to stay undefeated. Scranton is looking to hand the Warriors their first loss of the year. Who will come out on top in District 2’s Game of the Week?

Prediction: Scranton 28 Wyoming Area 21

Nanticoke at Pittston Area

Fri 7 PM

Nanticoke won on the road at Lake-Lehman. Pittston Area lost to Valley View last week. Trojans running back Zack Fox is rushing for 624 yards and six touchdowns. Patriots quarterback Drew DeLucca is throwing for 568 yards and five touchdowns. Nanticoke just snapped a three game losing streak and is hoping to rebound in the second half. Pittston Area started off 2-3 and is hoping to get to above .500 with a home victory.

Prediction: Nanticoke 21 Pittston Area 14

Hazleton Area at Dallas

Fri 7 PM

Hazleton Area is coming off a loss to West Scranton. Dallas is coming off a victory over Valley West to go to 5-0. Cougars running back Brady Mizenko has 697 yards and five touchdowns. Mountaineers running back Dylan Geskey is rushing for 561 yards and six touchdowns. Dallas is looking to stay unbeaten. Hazleton Area is looking to start off the second half with a win.

Prediction: Dallas 35 Hazleton Area 7

Wilkes-Barre Area at Crestwood

Fri 7 PM

Wilkes-Barre Area has won three straight games and defeated Berwick last week. Crestwood won their second straight game and won on the road at Williamsport. Comets quarterback Jaden Shedlock is rushing for 788 yards and nine touchdowns. He is throwing for 328 yards and three touchdowns. Wolf Pack wideout Evan Laybourn-Boddie has seven catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Both teams enter on a roll. Only one team will leave Mountain Top with their winning streak in tact, who will come out on top in this matchup?

Prediction: Crestwood 28 Wilkes-Barre Area 21

Central Mountain at Williamsport

Fri 7 PM

Central Mountain is coming off a loss to Shamokin. Williamsport is coming off a loss at home to Crestwood. Wildcats quarterback Thomas Sprague is throwing for 834 yards and eight touchdowns in the 2023 season. Millionaires quarterback Caleb Williamson has 1,041 yards and six touchdowns. He also has a rushing touchdown. Both teams are coming in with losing streaks. Who’s streak will come to an end by Friday night’s finish?

Prediction: Williamsport 28 Central Mountain 14

Valley West at Berwick

Fri 7 PM

Valley West is coming off a loss to undefeated Dallas. Berwick lost to Wilkes-Barre Area last week. Spartans running back Isaiah Cobb is rushing for 364 yards and three touchdowns on the year. Bulldogs quarterback Ethan Lear has 438 yards and a touchdown. He is also rushing for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Both teams enter with a 1-4 record. Who will get that big win to start off the second half?

Prediction: Berwick 28 Valley West 21

Hanover Area at Holy Redeemer

Sat 7 PM

Hanover Area lost to Wyoming Area last week. Holy Redeemer is coming off a loss on the road to Milton. Hawkeyes receiver Deacon Eisenbach has 15 catches for 194 yards and a touchdown. Royals quarterback Thomas Dugan is throwing for 380 yards and three touchdowns. He also has two rushing touchdowns. Hanover Area is looking to snap their four game winning streak. Holy Redeemer is looking for their first win of the year.

Prediction: Hanover Area 21 Holy Redeemer 7
