If you picked the Pioneers to win at home, on senior night, over a tough Twin Valley team that was looking to get back on the winning track, you picked the correct team. But very few, if any, would have imagined a night like Caileb Howse had. The first year senior quarterback rushed for 332 yards and seven, yes seven touchdowns and threw an 8 yard td pass to Emory Fluhr to lead Lampeter-Strasburg to a 62-14 win in a key Lancaster-Lebanon league matchup.

“He’s got talent. I’m really happy for that kid. He’s worked very very hard for three year in the weight room” said Lampeter-Strasburg head coach Victor Ridenour. Howse had td runs of of 26, 56, 56, 67, 19 and 18 yards in the first half. He added a 2 yard run in the third quarter before taking his place on the sidelines while the rest of the team finished the game.

The Pioneers didn’t get off to a good start, fumbling the ball away on the games second play, but the Pioneer defense covered for that with three straight negative yard tackles forcing a Twin Valley punt. Running back Dominic Brown, who carried for 156 yards on the night, toted the rock a few times for 34 yards before Howse got his night started with a 26 yard td scamper.

Turnovers, three of them, plagued the Twin Valley offense, but it was the Pioneers that looked like they would open the door for the Raiders with another fumble, this one by Howse after a 30 yard gain. But Aven Cunningham, who had the first L-S fumble, made up for his mistake by picking off Twin Valley quarterback Evan Myers. 56 yards later Howse had his second score.

After forcing a punt, the Pioneers needed just one play to make it a 21-0 game. Twin Valley’s first turnover led to the td pass from Howse to Fuhr. The Raiders finally found the scoreboard when Myers found a wide open Ben Gundy for a 68 yard td connection.

With the score 28-7, it was Brown who had a nice run to bump the score to 35-7.

Twin Valley fought right back. Myers hit on two long passes in a row then he hammered home the three yard td run, but all for naught. On the very next play Howse busted loose for 67 yards and the score. The defense held again giving Howse another chance to shine, then another Pioneer interception led to the last Howse score of the half.

“Yeah, gotta give credit to my line. They really stepped it up. They just push each other all the time” said Howse.

Next week the Pioneers will face Wyomissing in a huge conference championship game at Wyomissing on Saturday.
