Lansdale Catholic makes the trip up the Northeast Extension and overwhelms the Viking defense in the 2nd half en-route to a 33-7 state quarterfinal victory.
Williams Valley won the toss and elected to take the ball to start off the game. After an initial first down, the Lansdale Catholic defense forced a punt and the offense led by Akron commit Yeboa Cobbold Jr. went right to work. The drive capped off via an 11 yard reception in the endzone by Darren Jackson from Cobbold to open the scoring in the 1st quarter.

Not to be outdone, Williams Valley led by Brady Shomper’s arm and Fletcher Thompson’s legs marched right down the field on their next possession, crossing in to the 2nd quarter and being capped off by a Thompson 4 yard TD plunge to give the Vikings a 7-6 lead with 9:15 left in the first half.

The Crusaders bounced right back with a scoring drive of their own. Little chunk runs started off the drive, but then Cobbold found a hole, mad a single cut and dashed up the middle of the Viking defense 51 yards untouched for the score. With 5:50 remaining in the first half it was Lansdale Catholic 13, Williams Valley 7. The two defenses went on to trade interceptions, Evan Achenbach picking off Cobbold, and then Shomper being picked off by Nick O’Brien. The Crusaders lined up for a field goal attempt with just seconds remaining in the half, but the kick was short and no good.
In to the 2nd half we go, Lansdale Catholic got the ball to start the half and Cobbold led his offense right down the field finding Asher Thickening over the middle for a 46 yard catch and run deep in to Williams Valley territory.

The teams went on to trade punts back and forth, then the Vikings , looking to get back in the game tried to stretch the field through the air, but Shomper was picked off by Asher Thickening to end the Williams Valley threat.

The following two series saw the respective defenses stand tall and force turnovers on downs by each offense. Willams Valley now with the ball again, were looking to score but once again, Asher Thickening stepped in front the the Shomper pass and collected his 2nd interception on the evening, this one he returned deep in Viking territory. A few plays later, Nick O’Brien cashed in again, this time from 6 yards out to further extend the Crusaders lead. With just under 3 minutes remaining, the score was Lansdale Catholic 33, Williams Valley 7.
The game was put on ice by the Crusaders on the next drive as a fumbled snap was recovered by the Crusaders and they proceeded to kneel out the clock to clinch the victory. With the victory, the District 12 2A champs, Lansdale Catholic (12-2), move on to the 2A state semi-final next week against powerhouse Southern Columbia (13-1) who are fresh off a 55-26 victory over Steelton-Highspire. With the defeat, the District XI 2A champs season comes to a close with a record of 12-2.
After the game I was able to track down Yeboah Cobbold Jr. for some post- game comments.
