Since joining the PIAA back in 2008, the Catholic League has dominated the biggest class of District 12, having won the District title at that classification every year except 2008, when George Washington defeated LaSalle. Since going to 6 classes in 2016, it has been St Joseph’s Prep that has every single District 12 6A Championship. Two weeks ago, the Hawks were dethroned as the Catholic League champions by LaSalle. Saturday afternoon, LaSalle ensured the Catholic League dominance of District 12 6A continued. The Explorers jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead on their way to a 34-16 victory over Imhotep for the Explorers’ first District Championship since 2015.
Ahzir Nelson’s 10-yard touchdown run was the lone score of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Gavin Sidwar and Joey O’Brein connected two times for Explorers touchdowns, and Chris Heck added a field goal at the buzzer to send the Explorers into the room up 24-0.
In the second half, the Panthers crawled their way back into the game with a Syeer Coleman 3-yard run touchdown in the third quarter and a Kassan Chappel two-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Sidwar and O’Brein connected for a third time in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Explorers, who advance to face Easton Friday Night at BASD Stadium in Bethlehem.
