Lazorak leads Jim Thorpe to a Saturday night win over Palmerton.

Senior signal-caller throws for 235 yards and runs for another 60 in doubling up the Blue Bombers.

PALMERTON- Behind the seller play of Senior quarterback Cole Lazorick and a stingy defense the Jim Thorpe Olympians opened up their 2025 campaign by knocking off Palmerton 28-14 Saturday night before a large crown at Bomber Stadium.

The Olympians got on the scoreboard first on their opening drive by using up over six minutes of ball-control offense, from the Bomber 46, Lazorick hooked up with Anthony Kiehl, who beat his man in single coverage for the score and a 7-0 lead with 5:39 remaining in the quarter.

Palmerton would tie the score at seven on the first play of the second quarter after driving inside the Olympians five yard line, a quick-thinking Wyatt Gable pounced on a loose ball in the end zone to knot the score with 11:52 showing on the clock.

The Blue Bombers would take their only lead in the contest midway through the second quarter as running back Caleb Sagastume would cap of the drive by going in from two yards out making it 14-7 at the 6:34 mark.

PALMERTON- had the ball deep in their own end of the field late in the second quarter, when a fumble occured and the Olympians took over inside the 20. From their Lazorick called his own number and took off around left end and tucked the ball over the goal line inside the pylon to make the score 14-14 heading into the locker room.

Jim Thorpe would catch a huge break in the third quarter when forced to punt, Palmerton muffed the punt and the Olympins gained possession inside the Bomber 10. Running back Josual Louck would power his way to paydirt from 3 yards out making a the score 21-14 with 9:36 left.

With 7:39 left still in the third quarter, Jim Thorpe put an exclamation point on the contest as Lazorick connected with wide receiver Bobby Levins across the middle and outran the Bomber defense for a 67 yard touchdown making the score 28-14.

“Turnovers were key in the second half and of course right before the half we got the ball and took advantage of that.” Coach Mark Rosenberger stated after the game.

Jim Thorpe now 1-0 will face Pottsville at home next Friday. The Crimson Tide lost to Shamokin Friday 34-14. PALMERTON- will try to get in the win column by going on the road to face Pen Argyl, up on the hill Saturday afternoon. The Green Knights knocked off Tamaqua 14-6 Friday night.
