LoPresto’s Big Night Propels Pittston Area over Crestwood.

After the final horn sounded on Friday night, a Pittston Area player proclaimed after the postgame handshake. “The Pats are back!” After their performance, you can believe it as Lucas LoPresto scored four touchdowns as the Patriots improved to 5-1 on the season for the first time in 22 years with a convincing 47-14 victory at Crestwood. “Extremely proud of the guys, not easy coming up to Mountain Top to come out and have the performance that we had especially early in the game. Couldn’t be more proud.” Said Pittston Area head coach Paul Russick.

The Comets started with the ball and immediately got a 17 yard run by Nate Walsh to get into Pittston Area territory. Crestwood faced a third and 10. Jaden Shedlock’s pass ended up being intercepted by Brody Spindler and returned to the Comets 44 yard line. The drive ended with Lucas LoPresto scoring from eight yards out for a 7-0 Pittston Area lead with 8:03 remaining in the first quarter.

Both teams were trading punts until the final minute of the first quarter. LoPresto scored his second rushing touchdown on an 80 yard run with 24.6 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 14-0. The Pittston Area defense forced another three and out. On the next Patriot possession, LoPresto scored his third rushing touchdown from five yards out for a 21-0 lead with 9:08 left in the second quarter.

Pittston Area forced another three and out. Spindler scored from 35 yards out to make it 27-0 as the extra point was blocked with 6:24 remaining in the first half. LoPresto scored his fourth touchdown of the night as he recovered a fumble and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown and it’s 33-0 Patriots with 5:17 left in the second quarter. Crestwood did get on the board as Shedlock scored from 12 yards out to make it 33-7 with 2:36 remaining in the second quarter. Pittston Area answered with a touchdown of their own as Paulie Ferentino found John Jadus for an 11 yard touchdown to make 40-7 with 12 seconds to go before halftime.

The Patriots cruised through the second half. Kayden Bailey scores from 35 yards out to invoke the mercy rule at 47-7. Crestwood got a four yard touchdown from Kyle Schade to make it 47-14. Pittston Area took the victory 47-14 to go to 5-1 for the first time in 22 years. The win was also the school’s 298th victory. The Patriots host Wilkes-Barre Area next week meanwhile the Comets who fall to 3-3 on the year travel to Hazleton Area.
