A well-known, bitter rivalry between the J.P McCaskey Red Tornado and the Manheim Township Blue Streaks struck Lancaster County football fans full of anxiousness Friday evening. J.P McCaskey, through 5 weeks, still found themselves searching for a win. Manheim Township, sitting at 4-1, looked to not only extend their win streak to 4 but apply pressure in the Lancaster-Lebanon Conference standings. The Blue Streaks did just that, winning 56-21 against the Red Tornado but also now tying their undefeated conference record with the Wilson Bulldogs.

J.P McCaskey was anticipating setting the tone early with premature points but Manheim Township had other plans. After a punt from the Tornado, the Blue Streaks wasted no time striking first with a first play go-ball to Senior Daryus Dixon. Following Daryus was his Sophomore teammate, Chase Fletcher who found a soft spot in the zone receiving a redzone dart from Senior Quarterback Jack Kenneff.

McCaskey punted once again the very next possession and just before the second quarter, Senior of Manheim Township, Taylor Veilleux broke one loose to the outside for seven to extend their lead to 21-0. Then, Daryus Dixon added for his 2nd score on a long RAC(run after catch) score. This next drive showed glimpses of hope. Except for the Tornadoes, the hope was short lived due to a fumble, which led to another Township score, this time from Senior Marcos Fernandez and a 35-0 game.

Chances started to fade up to this point for the Red Tornado. Being down 35-0 and their next possession was no different. Although controversy may flare, McCaskey had punted on 4th and 1 on their side of the field. And yes, the Blue Streaks made them pay, guaranteeing Daryus Dixon and Jack Kenneff’s double hat-tricks up against this Tornado defense.

Then, McCaskey Senior QB who returned from injury, Liam Stinchfield forced a sideline deep ball to his wideout Quinnes Jones Hawkins and the pass was intercepted by Zachary Bomberger. A little back and forth defensive messaging from both teams as the Blue Streaks were intercepted as well by McCaskey Senior Johnzell Trowery-Sibley. Johnzell took matters into his own hands the exact following play, skying above Township defensive backs to finally get his Tornadoes on the board at 42-6. Give credit to Armani Rivera for being a workhorse and lifting his team down the field to ease off a considerably rattled Liam Stinchfield at this time.

With this just being the half way point, both teams knew there was a lot of work to be done. Opening up the half, the P.J show began. Township eased with speed down the field and So. Parrish Myers(P.J) tagged along for 7. Nate Fletcher of the Blue Streaks intercepted Liam Stinchfield leading to another score courtesy of Parrish Myers.

However, the following drive Liam Stinchfield fought back and displayed tenacity for a 4th and medium touchdown run in the redzone. At this point, this game was at the brink of closure at 56-15. With about 3 minutes remaining, a Blue Streaks fumble opened up one last scoring opportunity for the Tornadoes. Complementary football at its finest with a solid Qua’May Pettway run to the 1 yard line and Bruszavion Baisch punched it in from the 1 yard line, closing this game here at Kruis Field.

The McCaskey Red Tornado continue a win drought and end a long road game trip as they head back to Lancaster Catholic High, their temporary home to face another LL Conference team, the Reading Red Knights at 4:00PM on Saturday(10/4), who is also winless. For the Manheim Township Blue Streaks, they continue to extend their win streak and will have to face the Cedar Crest Falcons on Friday(10/3) at 7:00PM.
