HAMPTON, PA – It was a dominating performance for the Fightin’ Planets defense Friday night.
Despite a quiet first quarter, that wouldn’t be a sign for things to come for the Mars offense. Following a muffed punt recovered by the Planets, Eric Kasperowicz Jr powered 12-yards into the end zone for the first score of the game. Just over a minute later, Mars would again find the endzone, when Gabe Hein took Kasperowicz’ wildcat pass 68-yards for the touchdown. Later in the quarter, Ayden Yocum would join the party with a 6-yard rushing score, making it 21-0 at the half.
Porter Kelly and the Hampton Talbots would hope to change their fortunes after regrouping in the locker room. However, on the opening drive of the second half, a blocked punt recovered by Hunter Schroder in the endzone drained any hope the Talbots had. Blake Yates would add a 15-yard touchdown from Nate Walker, putting the mercy rule in effect.
Eric Kasperowicz Jr ran for 121 yards on 14 attempts, reeling in 2 receptions for 37 yards, and throwing 1-1 with a 68 yard touchdown.
Following Knoch’s 48-21 loss against West Mifflin, the Fightin’ Planets have clinched their spot in the WPIAL playoffs. Mars will look ahead to their final regular season matchup next Friday at home against 1-8 Indiana.
