Last Year it was Mars upsetting Montour in the playoffs and this year was no different with Mars getting a 29-21 victory over Montour.
Montour got the ball to start the game and were into Mars territory but after a couple of penalties the drive stalled and ended with a turnover on downs.
Mars started their first drive on their own 13 yard line and it was looking like a good drive and were into Montour territory but they as well tuned the ball over on downs.
The first score of the game occurred late in the first quarter on a 51 yard run by Ayden Yocum which made the score 7-0 Mars with 1:48 in the first quarter.
Early on in the second quarter Mars extended their lead on a 5 yard touchdown run by Ayden Yocum that made the score 13-0 Mars with 10:58 in the first quarter. Yocum was the main player in the game for Mars. He had 329 yards on 35 carries.
Midway through the second quarter once again Mars was able to extend their lead on a 27 yard field goal by Frank Knezovich making the score 16-o Mars with 7:08 in the second quarter.
Montour was finally able to get on the board toward the end of the quarter on a 34 yard run by Archie Collins which made the score 16-6 Mars with 3:09 in the second quarter.
Before the first half ended Mars was able to get another score on a 31 yard field goal by Frank Knezovich. That made the score 19-6 Mars at halftime.
Mars got the ball to start the second half and were into Montour territory but ended up turning the ball over on downs.
Late in the third quarter Montour was able to cut into the Mars lead on a big 80 yard run by Caden Halajcio which made the score 19-13 Mars with 2:51 in the third quarter.
Shortly after that Mars was able to answer the Montour score when Ayden Yocum scored his third touchdown of the evening this one being a 56 yard run which made the score 26-13 Mars with 2:35 in the third quarter. “They got that score and it was a big stop and then and then boom, he shot out of a cannon again, he’s tremendous, he’s got breakaway speed and with our offensive line, again, if we can get him in some good situations, and if we can run the ball like that, I like our chances” said Coach Kasperowicz. “I’ve been able to run the ball, get some rushing yards, but I haven’t really been able to find the end zone, so to be able to find the end zone this week, it really meant a lot, all thanks to my line of course” said Yocum.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Frank Knezovich was able to kick his third field goal in the game for Mars this one being 34 yards which made the score 29-13 Mars with 11:56 in the fourth quarter.
Late in the fourth quarter Montour was able to make it a one possession game on a Caden Halajcio 33 yard run after the 2 point conversion the score was 29-21 Mars with 2:34 left in the game. After that Montour was able to get a stop on defense and had the chance to tie it but a fumble ended the game.
Next week Mars starts conference play when the host West Mifflin. Montour also opens up conference play hosting Blackhawk.
