Harbor Creek – The Metro built a 21-0 halftime and cruised to a 35-14 victory over the County in the 87th playing of the Erie Lions Club Save an Eye game.

It was a beautiful night for football at Harbor Creek High School’s Paul J. Weitz Stadium – it was McDowell’s Stephon Porter and the Metro’s offensive line that controlled play. The Trojan graduate rushed for a game-high 144 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

“This means a lot, Porter said. “It was at a different place this time, but we came out here with energy and work our butts off during practice. We were ready for this game.”

Taking the football to begin the contest, the Metro set the tone from their initial snap when McDowell’s Stephon Porter ran 34 yards.

“We definitely set the tone, but I’m a little mad I didn’t score, that’s on me, said Porter. “I give the credit to my line; they did great at the beginning of the game. We fought through and got the dub. I have to give it to my line tonight. Blayze, my coaches and coaching staff, we all came together as a family.”

Fellow Trojan teammate Blayze Myers scored on a 1-yard run four plays later to open the scoring 1:56 into the game.

The Metro, which scored on five of its six possessions without counting the end of each half, extended its lead when Carmelo Hunter recovered a fumble by Porter at the 10-yard line, which rolled into the end zone as time expired in the opening stanza.

Late in the first half, it was Arydah Pacely of Erie High capping an 8-play 55-yard drive. Pacely chipped in with 62 yards on 11 carries.

Porter, then, scored on a 15-yard run at the 4:53 mark of the third quarter, pushing the lead to 28-0 following a 73-yard drive.

The County then got their offense going when General McLane’s Teige Berger scored on a 19-yard run following an 81-yard drive. Berger rushed for a team-high 38 yards on six carries.

Tajoun Williams of Cathedral Prep added a 3-yard touchdown from Harbor Creek’s Heath Betza following a 10-minute drive to begin the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 35-6.

A pair of Corry Beavers helped to close scoring when Nolan Carey threw completions of 48 and 32 yards to Mason Savitz, with the 32-yarder reining in the 35-14 final with 1:42 to play.
