On Friday evening, the Montour Spartans defeated the Trinity Hillers in a back-and-forth showdown with a final score of 35-27.
Trinity started out the gates hot when senior QB Jonah Williamson scored his first touchdown on a 20-yard run giving the Hillers 7-0 about four minutes into the first quarter.
Montour and Trinity exchanged punts and long drives and the stalemate was broken when Montour’s Brandon Bennett threw a 13-yard TD pass to Dom Baron with under a minute left in the first quarter.
The Spartans forced another Hiller punt to start the second quarter and then scored again thanks to a great misdirecting handoff from Bennett to Caden Halajcio. Montour led 14-7 with just under 10 minutes left in the second quarter.
However, like before, the two teams went back to a stalemate until Williamson broke it again this time from four yards out and he collected his second rushing TD. The game was tied at 14 with just over three minutes left in the half.
One play later, Bennett and the Spartans responded again, but this time for the longest play of the night when a 70-yard TD pass was thrown to Zander Stern. Montour’s two point conversion was no good, however it led 20-14 with just under three minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Trinity, despite the quick response, moved the ball down deep into Montour territory. Williamson threw a pass over the middle of the field that Baron read and got a clutch interception with under two minutes left in the second quarter.
Despite the forced turnover, Montour punted and allowed Trinity to have another opportunity to score with just seconds left in the first half. Williamson however, again threw an interception, this time into the endzone and that wrapped up the first half of action with a score of 20-14.
Trinity received the opening kickoff to start the second half, and began to put together a drive. While driving the Hillers ran a fake punt at mid field to pick up the first down and eventually Owen Gardner ran it in from 10 yards out and gave Trinity the 21-20 lead just over four minutes into the third quarter.
Montour the following drive though responded fast again. Bennett this time had a 1-yard rushing touchdown and completed a two-point conversion pass to Baron for the eight points and a 28-21 lead.
Trinity, like earlier in the game, punted the ball away and Montour, like earlier took advantage. Halajcio scored on an 11-yard rushing TD to give Montour their 35-21 lead nearing the end of the third quarter.

The Hillers responded though on the ensuing drive when WIlliamson scored his third rushing touchdown of the game from inside the 20-yard line, but Trinity missed the extra point and the score of 35-27.
That was the score that remained for the final seven minutes and change of gametime remaining. Trinity was given an opportunity to tie the game when Montour went for a fourth down conversion deep in Trinity territory and didn’t convert.
