MONTOURSVILLE – Last night marked the 68th meeting all-time between the Montoursville Warriors and the Mifflinburg Wildcats, and so far the series had been dominated by Montoursville who currently stands with a 57-10-1 record all time against the Wildcats. This time around however the story was much different, as the Wildcats completely dominated the game and beat Montoursville by a dominant final score of 35-7.

Both team’s opening drives ended in interceptions before Mifflinburg settled down and opened the night’s scoring with a 20 yard touchdown pass to Seth Hartman that capped off a 9 play, 46 yard drive. The following drive Montoursville’s quarterback Eli Eck threw his second of three interceptions on the night just two plays into the drive. Only three plays later Mifflinburg capitalized again, this time with a 2 yard run by Landon Moser, his first of four touchdowns on the night which made the score 14-0 with 3:54 to play in the opening quarter.

Montoursville’s next drive ended up being the only productive one in the entire first half as they drove all the way to Mifflinburg’s 13 yard line before before the drive stalled forcing them to settle for a 35 yard field goal attempt which sailed wide left. The next drive, Mifflinburg established even more dominance than they had already been showing, driving all 80 yards in just 10 plays and capping off the drive with a 3 yard touchdown run by Landon Moser again, increasing the lead to 21-0. The very next drive more disaster struck for the Warriors as on the third play Christian Banks had the ball knocked out of his hands and right into the hands of Kaiden Kmett. Before Montoursville fans could even grasp what happened, Landon Moser took the very next carry 30 yards to the end zone for his third touchdown of the half, increasing Mifflinburg’s lead to 28-0 with 6:44 left until halftime.

A three and out by Montoursville gave the ball right back to Mifflinburg, and this time they were able to drive 66 yards in only 7 plays, the drive once again being capitalized by Landon Moser with his fourth and final touchdown carry of the game, this one being the longest of all of them being a 53 yard carry. After another three and out, Mifflinburg took the ball and drove to midfield but this time their drive stalled, and Montoursville was able to make the stop. The Warriors got the ball back with just 26 seconds remaining and decided to just run the remainder of the clock out and head to halftime.

“Coming out obviously our plan was to score, pound the ball, run the ball,” Mifflinburg head coach Cody Botts said at halftime. “We feel really good about Moser, obviously he’s a power back for us, and we know while the passing game is certainly our strength, we can run the ball at will and that’s what we wanted to do in that first half.”

Landon Moser was the star of the game very obviously as ended up finishing the night with 11 carries for 116 yards and 4 touchdowns, along with 2 interceptions on defense, his second one coming in the second half of the game. Montoursville ended up finding the end-zone in the fourth quarter with a garbage time touchdown from Hayden Harvey but other than that, the game was in a mercy rule which allowed for a running clock. Mifflinburg finished the game out and secured a 35-7 victory and is now 4-0 for the first time since 2021, while Montoursville drops to 3-1 on the season.

“Going from last week to this week, I think they absolutely have a purpose, they’re driven and they’re motivated by what’s ahead and our goals that we set at the beginning of the season,” Mifflinburg head coach Cody Botts said after the game. “Obviously very proud of our guys came out and started the game. Obviously had the running clock in the second half so things could have been better, but overall a really good team win.”

“He was feeling it going into the first quarter, he wanted the ball. He plays great on defense, he’s our main outside linebacker, it just shows how nasty our offense is,” Mifflinburg quarterback Chad Martin said when asked about Landon Moser’s performance.

Next week Mifflinburg (4-0) travels to Hollidaysburg while Montoursville (3-1) is back on the road to face Mount Carmel.
