Moshannon Valley Handles Claysburg-Kimmel

Moshannon Valley used 5 receiving touchdowns from Micah Beish to beat Claysburg-Kimmel 48-20, on homecoming in Houtzdale.

The Black Knights started with the ball and couldn’t get anything going on their first drive, going 3 and out. On the Bulldogs first offensive possession, Mark Lattieri put the ball on the ground. Rocco Reifer came up with ball for the first turnover of the game. It then took Mo Valley three minutes and sixteen seconds on 7 plays to put the first points on the board. Jalen Kurten found Beish for a 36-yard strike for their first connection of the game.  J.C. Smith added the PAT to make it 7-0. After some pretty stout defense by Kurten, breaking up a pass. The Bulldogs punted back to the Black Knights. They had a pretty good drive going with 2 first downs to Reifer and Luke Yarger on consecutive plays. Reifer fumbled the ball on the 22 yard line on his next carry. Sr. Captain Zachary Campagna found the ball for his 2nd fumble recovery of the season. Claysburg’s next drive had a promising start with Mark Lattieri, he took the first play 20 yards for their first First Down. But a sack on third down had the Bulldogs punting again. Moshannon Valley got the ball back with 1:16 left in the first quarter. They ended up getting a first down to end the quarter.

They continued to drive as the second quarter started. Using majority run for 61 yards and 4 first downs. Capping it off with a 18 yard TD reception for Beish. The PAT by Smith making the score 14-0 with 6:06 left in the 1st half. Tyler Mowry got the Bulldogs out to the 42 yard line with a 25-yard kick return. The next 2 plays were by M. Lattieri for 33 yards on the ground. After the first down, Mo Valley called a timeout to stop their momentum. And it worked. On 4 and 7, Emergency quarterback  Anthony McGeary went for the screen pass but found Black Knights Freshman D-Lineman  J.C. Smith for the interception. Smith went on to take it 78 yards for his first career touchdown. After he caught his breath, he went to make the PAT. Making it 21-0. The Bulldogs started with great field position after a personal foul penalty was accepted. They went right down the field with a balanced drive. Trevor Brown took it in the Endzone for an 11 yard Touchdown run. Elias Ritchey made the extra point to make it 21-7. Just 3 plays later, Mo Valley’s  Kurten found Beish again for their 3rd TD of the game, the score was 27-7. Claysburg tried to make something happen on the next drive. They ended up throwing a interception to Luke Yarger. Mo Valley started with a big play  but as got pulled back with a holding call. Which basically ended the half. “We gave the fans something to enjoy”. Said Black Knight Head Coach Chris Davidson.

The second half started similar to how the first half ended. A small drive by the Bulldogs which Sam Shipley made 3 tackles on the drive. On 3rd down Yarger intercepted his second pass of the night. The Black Knights drove 60 yards. With Kurten finding Beish for his 4th touchdown of the game. Smith added the PAT to make it 34-7 Moshannon Valley. CK looked to have hit a stride. They went on a 7 play drive that ended with a 8 yard rushing Touchdown to McGeary. The PAT  was blocked so that makes the score 34-13. Mo Valley took a 5 yard rush after their 1st play got called back. The Black Knights had 6 penalties for 45 yards for the game.

The 4th quarter continued the drive for Mo Valley. On 4th and 6, Beish caught his school record 5th touchdown pass. This touchdown also put Kurten over the 1000 yard mark on the year.  Smith added the PAT to make it 41-13. The Bulldogs found some luck throwing the ball to Remington Diehl for 29 yard gain. Then on the Diehl catches a 21 yard TD pass from McGeary. 41-20 is the score. On the very next offensive play, Yarger rushed for a 68 yard touchdown leaving score 48-20. The teams traded turnovers on the next couple drives. Claysburg had another great drive that ultimately ended on a 4th an Goal on the 6th yard line.  Mo Valley kneeled it out to win the game 48-20. “Overall our effort is there”. Claysburg-Kimmel’s Head coach Chuck Kassick said.

MV – Kurten 9/18 175 yards 5 TD, Yarger 16 carries 173 yards rushing 1 TD and Micah Beish 9 catches 175 yards 5 TDs. CK- McGeary 8/24 139 passing yards 1 TD and 3 Ints 12 carries for 43 yards. Diehl 3 catches 55 yards, 1TD  and Brown 10 carries 79 yards and 1 TD. Moshannon Valley plays home next week against West Branch. Claysburg-Kimmel travels next week to Mount Union.
