Mount Carmel cruises by Milton in convincing fashion

Mount Carmel earns fourth straight win, sets up a showdown with Shamokin to close out the regular season on the horizon.

MOUNT CARMEL- The Red Tornadoes of Mount Carmel, scored touchdowns on three consecutive drives in the first quarter against a porous Milton Black Panthers defense that allowed the home team to roll to their fourth straight win Friday night 48-25 at the Silver Bowl and sets up a showdown contest with rival and unbeaten Shamokin next Friday night.

Mount Carmel got off to fast start by scoring on the first place from scrimmage as running back Cooper Karycki, took a hand-off and went around the left end, avoiding several would-be tacklers and weaved his way through traffic before sprinting down the home sidelines for a 74 yard score, the extra-point was missed leaving the score 6-0 with 11:39 left in the opening quarter.

On the Red Tornadoes second possession QB Gavin Marshalek connected with Micheal Kimsel out in the flat and Kimsal just edged his way inside the right pylon for a 16 yard score, this time the point-after was good making the score 13-0.

Jaylen Delaney would score from 4 yards out on Mount Carmel’s third time they had the ball in the quarter to make it after the conversion made the score 20-0 with still 3:36 on the clock. The Red Tornadoes gained nearly 400 yards in the opening half in the blowout win.

Karycki would then step in from of a Montgomery Fisher pass on the far sidelines and return it 22 yards for another score increasing the lead to 27-0 at the 2:54 mark. Karycki ended up with a 106 yards rushing in the game, before an injury would sideline him late in the first half.

Milton would finally gets some points of their own on their next drive as Fisher would find a gap in the Mount Carmel line and with no safety in the middle of the field, Fisher exploded for a 73 yard touchdown run cutting the lead to 27-6 as the PAT was blocked.

In the second quarter, Mount Carmel had the ball at the Milton 15, when Delaney broke run up the middle but as he was being tackled near the goal line, the ball came out, but Max Karycki was johnny-on-the-spot falling on the ball as it laid in the end zone making the score 33-7 with 10:53 left in the half.

Monty Fisher, tried everything in his power to keep the game close as he pushed over from inside the Mount Carmel one yard line, the two-point conversion failed leaving the score 33-12.

On the Red Tornadoes next drive Marshalek dropped a perfectly thrown dime to a wide open Delaney, who got behind the Black Panthers secondary for a 55 yard score to make it 41-14 at the 4:15 mark of the second quarter. Marshalek was perfect in passing going 5 for 5 for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Delaney had 139 yards in total offense and two touchdowns.

Kimsal would make the game into a running clock in the second half after another one of Milton’s five turnovers, in the contest as he crossed the goal line from three yards out with 17 seconds left before intermission.

There was no scoring in the third quarter, however Milton would score twice in the final quarter. Once on a 14 yard JaCori Brown score and Brody Locke would score on the last play of the game.

“We came out of the gates quickly, other than blinking in the second quarter giving up a couple of long runs, other than that our guys did a great job.” Coach John Darrah of Mount Carmel stated after the game.

Mount Carmel improves to 5-4 heading into next weeks’ showdown with unbeaten Shamokin (9-0) a 42-7 winners over Loyalsock on Friday. Milton now drops to 3-6 and will close their season at home with Warrior Run (8-1) the Defenders shutout Central Columbia 56-0.
