Neumann Goretti is once again king of the district after blasting past John Bartram 36-0. The first game of the season saw Neumann in a super competitive game with Pope John Paul when they lost their starting quarterback Shane Salley to a season ending injury and fell in defeat 21-20. With a new QB under center the offense would shift to a run heavy based offense the next 6 games as the Saints went 3-3 during that stretch. The running back duo of Makhi Mitchell and A’Mar Woodson carried the load until the Saints settled on Freshman QB Marquis Coleman as the signal caller. Mahki as the upperclassman has totaled over 700 yards rushing on the ground with A’Mar closely trailing him with over 600 yards.

Saturday against Bartram the duo wasted no time showing their skill set as the Saints rushed out to a 18-0 lead after the first quarter and a 28-0 lead at the half. A’Mar finished the day with his 5th multi touchdown game of the season with 2 scores on the day while Mahki also scored twice once on the ground and one via a reception. Defensively DB Jelane Richardson recorded his 3rd interception of the season during the 3rd quarter to end a scoring drive for Bartram.

Entering the 2025 season most pegged Egan as the favorites to win the 3A title and had NG for having another down year. A’Mar stated “we heard all the talk but it only motivated us. We knew what kind of team we could be so we locked in and got back to our standard”. With regards to how well the running game worked Saturday against Bartram he stated “we saw opportunities on film and our offensive line came out ready. Once we saw how we were moving them upfront we knew we could keep pounding them”. Despite having a 28-0 halftime lead the Saints kept plugging away “We just kept reminding each other that the job isn’t done and we wanted to finish the right way and keep our level of play the whole game”. With regards to sharing the backfield with Mahki he stated “We push each other every day. When he’s rolling, I’m excited for him, and when I get my shot he’s the same way. We both want to see the team win at the end of the day”. For Neumann they are still in search of their programs first state title and Coach Albie’s 3rd title and for A’Mar and the Saints “it would mean everything, we’ve worked too hard to fall short”. We want to finish it and do something big for this program and everybody who supports us. It would be amazing in my first year play high school football and winning a state title.

Neumann will move on to the PIAA quarterfinal round to face the District 3 champion in 2 weeks. Bartram concludes their season at 7-5 and caps off a successful season as they turned the program around within a year. In 2024 the Braves went winless at 0-9 and had a first round playoff exit. This year they advanced to the Public League playoffs semi final.
