WEXFORD, PA – North Allegheny defeated Norwin 36-14 Friday night, but it wasn’t as easy as the final score may imply.

Both teams would get off to a slow start with three and outs resulting in punts. On the Tigers second possession, quarterback Brady Brinkley would take the keeper 63-yards to the house. A successful two-point attempt afterwards put the Tigers up 8-0.

Norwin quarterback Tristyn Tavares would respond with a keeper of his own, taking it 80-yards to the endzone. On the following drive, North Allegheny’s offense would threaten, taking the ball to the 33 of Norwin. Howver, a missed 40-yard field goal attempt from Alabama commit Peter Notaro would keep it a one-point game.

On the following drive, Tavares would again use his legs for a 23-yard score, putting Norwin up 14-8. Another three-and-out to start the second quarter would set the Knights up to stun the Tigers early. However, Tristyn Tavares would suffer a leg injury following a throw-away with heavy pressure. A few plays later, Norwin would attempt a 4th-and-1 on their own 30. Miscommunication on the snap resulted in a sack for the Tiger defense, setting North Allegheny up just outside the red zone.

One play later, Luke Rohan would take a handoff 25-yards into the endzone, giving the Tigers a 15-14 lead.

A punt from Norwin would pin the Tigers pinned back deep in their own territory. Then, a 15 play, 90-yard drive capped off by a Liam Flaherty 8-yard rushing TD would give NA a 22-14 lead with 41 seconds left in the half. The Tigers defense stepped up big in the second half, shutting out the Knights offense. Touchdowns to James Donaldson and Colman Craft would put the game out of reach.

North Allegheny will look ahead to Central Catholic on the road next week, while Norwin will return home to face North Hills.
