Strong efficient effort on both sides of the ball gives Rangers first back-to back wins in three years.
SHICKSHINNY- The Northwest Rangers came out hot and heavy Saturday night before a packed homecoming night crowd at Lewis and Miller Stadium and the elated fans went home happy as the Rangers dismantled an over-matched Sayre squad 62-6, Revenging a disappointing loss last season to the Redskins 21-19 in a Northern Tier League Contest Saturday night.
Northwest forced Sayre to punt on their opening drive, Loegan Diltz returned the punt inside the 20 yard line. Couple of plays later Diltz too a direct snap and scored from 15 yards out to open up the scoring. Ben Bonham scored on the two-point conversion and just like that it was 8-0.
Sayre was forced to punt again on their second drive, this there was no return as the Redskinns downed the all at the Northwest 13. Not to worry as it only took four paly for the Rangers to cash in as Diltz scored again this time for 16 yards out. The drive was bolstered by a sensational Chris Martinez 46 yard run and the PAT was good making it 15-0 with 4:32 left in the opening quarter.

Sayre once again found themselves with ball, but for just one play as a scoop-and-score return by Bonham for a 33 yard return and the rout was on as the lead swelled to 22-0.
An errant pass by Sayre quarterback Blake Zingeser landed the hands of Bonham and returned inside the red zone again for the home team and Bonham the promptly deposited the rock across the goal line from six yards out making a the score 29-0 with still 1:42 left the first quarter.
Northwest’s defense allowed a -15 total yardage for the Redskins in the quarter on 13 plays. For the game Sayre could only muster less than 60 yards of total offense.
The only thing that kept the Rangers off the board again was a penalty on a Diltz return of a punt, but that was just a bump in the road as another back Shane Hempel got in the act as he had a 21 yard run followed by a nifty 28 run for a score as he weaved in-and-out of would-be Sayre tacklers for another touchdown.

Bonham picked off his second pass of the night. Quarterback Mason Bilby took it in from 12 yards out, the PAT was blocked making it 41-0 with 5:51 left till intermission.Northwest did not attempt a single pass the entire game as the rushed for 224 yards on the night. Sayre could only muster 42 yards rushing on 36 attempts. Sayre turned the ball over 4 times.
Zaiden Meeker would take advantage of another Redskins turnover and cashed in from three yards out. Hempel closed out the scoring in the half with another spectacular 34 yard run making it 55-0 as both teams went to their respective locker rooms.
The second half started with the Rangers receiving the ball and the decision was made not just have a running clock but to have the quarters shortened to eight minutes each. That still didn’t deer Northwest from scoring as Diltz took the short kick from his 23 and outrun everyone for a 77 yard return making it 62-0.

“Logan is a workhorse for us. He is great kid and a phenomenal athlete for us. Whatever we ask him to do he does.” Head coach Stephen Nestorick stated.
The Rangers really wanted to keep the shutout going but late the final quarter Sayre began moving the ball picking up some big chunks of yardage that got them out of negative as Huson Malanowski made some key runs and a pass from Zingeser to Brayden Vorhis that picked a dozen yards.
Finally Malanwski cross the goal line from 4 yards out ending the shutout and making the score 62-6 with 7:19 left and that is how the game ended as the rain began to fall.
