Northwestern Lehigh Tigers eight first half touchdowns overwhelm Pottsville Crimson Tide Friday night.

NEW TRIPOLI- Any thoughts of the Pottsville Crimson Tide had of pulling off the upset against the Tigers were quickly squashed by a barrage of first half scores by the home team in a Colonial/Schuylkill League Gold Division contest by the count of 56-14 count.

Northwestern scored 21 points in the first twelve minutes, after Pottsville took the opening kickoff and could not sustain a drive and were forced to punt. The Tigers drove to the Tide five where QB Shane Leh found TE Shane Holmes, who made a juggling catch for the score and a 7-0 lead.

Pottsville went three-and-out on their second possession and the Tigers took over at the Tide 30. It took them just one play to score Shane Leh to Devon Hildebrand with 3:50 left in the quarter and 14-0 lead.

Northwestern defense forced a Pottsville turnover on their next possession and with 1:50 still left in the quarter they would extend the lead to 21-0 as Leh hooked up with Landen Matson for a 35 yard score and the game was getting out of hand.

For how disappointing the first quarter was for the Tide, the second got worse as the Tigers scored 5 touchdowns to ice the game.

Dalton Clymer would go 27 yards at the 11:25 mark before half to make it 28-0. Clymer finished with 90 yards on seven carries and two scores. The offense racked up over 200 yards rushing on 29 carries on the night.

The lead ballooned too 35-0 as Mason Bolinger scooted into the end zone from five yards out at the 9:48 mark. Bollinger, who also takes snaps at quarterback picked up 25 yards on the night on just three touches and the one score.

Eli Zimmerman would then come up with a 21 yard touchdown around the left of the line end into the corner of the end zone to make it 42-0 with still 4:33 left before halftime.

Zimmerman would add a defensive score as he picked off a Pottsville pass and deposited the rock in the promised land for a 42-0 lead.

Clymer would score the last touchdown of the half from two yards out with 1:48 and a 56-0 lead as the teams headed for the locker room.

Obviously and thankfully the second half was played with a running clock and Northwestern played with all the starters out of the game. Pottsville did mange two scores one by Parrish McFarland took it in from 27 yards at the 2:36 mark of the third quarter.

Terrell McFarland then darted in from 55 yards out to close out the scoring on the evening. The Tide could only manage 157 yards of total offense, 124 came via the ground attack as the passing game went 5 for 11 46 yards and 4 interceptions.

Northwestern (7-0) will be on the road next week at Bangor (5-2). The Slaters downed Lehighton Friday 48-20. Pottsville (2-5) will be home next week against winless Wilson area.
