Beaver Falls – Ohio, won its 14th contest in the Penn-Ohio Football Classic following a 28-10 victory over the Keystone State Thursday night at Reeves Field on the campus of Geneva College.
Throughout the first 44 games in the Penn-Ohio Classic, Ohio had only come out on top 13 times; on Thursday night, the Buckeye State controlled play from the outset en route to their 14th victory.
South Range running back Blake Ewert, who won offensive MVP for Ohio, led the way offensively, rushing for a game-high 117 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown.
“It feels great to be back on the field with some of my old high school teammates one line last time,” said Ewert. “It couldn’t have accomplished this without the help of my teammates and especially my offensive line. We wanted to come out and show what Ohio was all about. We knew the history of this series.”
Ewert won a state championship at South Range in 2022 with a perfect 16-0 record.
“This is a great way to cap off my high school football career tonight,” concluded Ewert. “I don’t know what else to say, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates.”
In the first half, Ohio scored two consecutive touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead as Boardman’s Tomas Andujar caught a 6-yard touchdown from West Branch’s Beau Alazaus, and Austintown Fitch’s DeShawn Vaughn scored on a 1-yard run.
