Boyertown v OJR TV by PAFootball Newsdotcom
The Wildcats of Owen J. Roberts scored on two huge plays in the first three minutes to quiet a Boyertown homecoming crowd. Boyertown was also celebrating its 900th game in program history, but it was Owen J. Roberts’ Mekhi Graham and Jonathan Miller celebrating early in this PAC showdown, leading their team to a 28-13 victory.
Just two plays into the game, Mekhi Graham hit the accelerator, crashing through the line for a 60-yard touchdown run with less than a minute gone.
Boyertown was held to a quick three-and-out on their opening possession. A routine 10-yard punt return by Jonathan Miller quickly turned into something else entirely when Miller cut to his right, going from the far sideline to the near side and taking it 52 yards to the end zone. With 9:02 to go in the opening quarter, The Wildcats were up 14-0.
Boyertown was able to move the ball on their second possession, getting from their own 15 to the OJR 35. But a 4th & 12 pass from Tilman Henley to Darius Neely covered only 11 yards, resulting in a turnover on downs.
The Bears’ next drive also began in promising fashion, as the team approached midfield. However, Chris Flynn’s first down pass was picked on a diving attempt by Mekhi Graham. A 35-yard long ball to Matt Gregory over his right shoulder put the Wildcats in the red zone. In the early moments of the second quarter, Chris Flynn kept it for a 2-yard touchdown and Owen J. Roberts led 21-0.
Boyertown needed a break in a bad way and finally got one on a 3rd & 8 call. Connor Foskey caught a Henley pass in the backfield and appeared to be stuffed for little or no gain. Somehow, he broke through the tackle and stormed 52 yards to pay dirt, getting the Bears back in it at 21-7 with 1:03 left in the half. The score remained the same at halftime.
Boyertown received to open the third quarter, giving them a chance to get closer. After the teams traded punts, Tilman Henley got the Bears going. On a 4th down call, Henley kept it for an 18-yard gain, setting him up for a 1-yard keeper moments later. With 1:03 to go in the third, Boyertown had cut the deficit to 21-13 and the Wildcats had only run three plays in the quarter.
But Mekhi Graham had the answer one more time for Owen J. Roberts. He ripped off big gainers of 32, 7, and 16 before Flynn hit Stahl for a 16-yard touchdown pass over the middle.
Boyertown’s next drive was cut short due to a personal foul and a big TFL from Gregory.
Jonathan Miller nearly added a late pick six, but went out of bounds a yard shy, allowing his Wildcats to kneel out the final minute and take the 28-13 victory.
On the evening, Mekhi Graham ran 26 times for 193 yards and a score. Chris Flynn was 11/16 for 119 yards and a score. Meanwhile, Boyertown fumbled the ball three times on the game, despite still managing 160 net rushing yards.
Owen J. Roberts looks to keep momentum going next week against a struggling Methacton squad. Boyertown will travel to Spring-Ford.
