April 1st – LCCS visited Lancaster Bible College to watch their girls program play Galudet in a game, then LCCS girls took the field after their game for an official inter-squad scrimmage. They had officials and treated the first 3 quarters as an actual game. The final quarter they just started each drive on the opponents 20yd line to try and get some scores in. Jon Toy, Head Coach: “The LCCS flag football team took the field in an inter-squad scrimmage this week. Plays developed, plays failed, the speed of the game was realized quickly by the team and in the end team BLUE came out on top 12-0. It was a great opportunity to see the girls having fun, competing hard and learning what real game play is going to be like as they look to take the field on 4/14 against Gwynned Mercy’s JV team. We look forward to an awesome and exciting season”.
OLSH:
OLSH – 0
Seton LaSalle – 52
Reagan Kavals – 1 Sack.
Nick Militzer: “Our team has played a tough schedule, however, their ability to never quit and always get back up and ready to make the next play is really going to help us as we come back from Easter break. Against Sto Rox, our senior quarterback, Lola Garner, really started coming into her own as our field general. She was able to hook up on 3 touchdown passes, two to Junior Shae Trombetta and one to Julia Davoli. We also got great defensive efforts by all highlighted by the flag pulls by Senior, Charlotte Gauntner, and interceptions by Lola Garner and freshman Jules Goshen. Charlotte and Jules also added one point conversions.
Against a strong, talented, and top WPIAL flag contender Seton LaSalle our girls competed hard and gained valuable experience. Senior Reagan Kavals registered one sack, Senior Ashlyn Johnson came through with plays offensively and defensively, and Charlotte Gauntner again had a great defensive game. Junior Natalie Turcios also came in at quarterback in relief of Lola Garner and was able to drive us down the field. Newcomer to flag football senior, Jordyn Velmire, has been a great weapon offensively and defensively. Senior Katie McCullough shows a great ability to show leadership and is a steady force on the field. Some of our freshman also came out with strong performances by Ashlyn Curry, Tenley Kavals, Teagan Ciak, and Layla Nichols. Sophomore Lily Baker is a strong presence on defense and makes great catches offensively”.
Latrobe flag football 6-1. Natalia Scekeres has thrown over 20 TD passes this season so far for Latrobe at Quarterback. Morgan Maiers. Freshman has scored 8 TDS this season. Mackenzie Livingston-Head Coach
The Mustangs jumped out to a 13-0 lead before seeing the Wildcats storm back to take a 14-13 halftime lead.
That would be the last point the stingy defense allowed, as the girls outscored their opponent 18-0.
Tamia West was the difference maker, hauling in six catches for 72 yards, 63 rushing yards, an interception, and three touchdowns. Also scoring touchdowns were Islo Filo and Caydence Morgan. Filo also had 58 rushing yards.
Kaiden Young completed 17 of 30 passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, Hayden Wawryzniak was key with two interceptions, and Brooke Dugas had an interception and eight flag tackles.
The win improves the Mustangs’ record to 6-0 and sole possession of 1st place in the WPIAL Section III Division.
