Orefield-

Trojans score early and often to quickly dispatch visiting Bears.

Parkland’s march toward an EPC championship faced little resistance as they quickly capitalized on multiple Pleasant Valley miscues to gain an early lead and never look back.  The open the game, Parkland received the kickoff and wasted little time finding the end-zone.  On their first offensive play, Trojan quarterback Finn Coen found Nassim Adams in the flat who almost took the swing pass to the house, but he was brought down from behind at the Pleasant Valley 5 yard line.  Two plays later, Parkland’s TJ Lawrence  found  a hole right up the middle and put Parkland up 7-0 with 10:43 left in the opening quarter.

The ensuing drive saw Pleasant Valley QB Jaxson Haines picked off on third down by Parkland’s TJ Lawrence who returned the interception deep in to Bears’ territory.  Two plays Jaren Sanchez found room up the middle to quickly make this a 2 score game just over three minutes in to the game.

Pleasant Valley’s offense started to come to life a bit on the next drive, accumulating a few first downs before being forced to punt the ball away by the Parkland defense.  The punt was fielded just outside Parkland’s 10 yard line by Nassim Adams who took the return all the way back for the touchdown.  With just under 3 minutes remaining in the opening quarter it was now Parkland 21, Pleasant Valley 0.

The ensuing Bear possession ended with another turnover.  This time a mis-handled pitch found its’ way in to the waiting arms of Parkland’s TJ Lawrence. Trojan qb Finn Coen took his shot on the first play after the turnover and found Blake Nassry down the seam for a 40 yard pitch and catch for the score which extended the Trojan lead to 28 still in the first quarter.

The 2nd quarter was more of the same from Parkland as Naquan Thomason found the end zone  on back to back drives to extend the Trojan lead to 42-0 with just under 7 minutes until half time.

Following these two scores, Pleasant Valley finally was able to break through on to the scoreboard.  The Bears methodically marched the ball down the field and with 46 seconds left in the half, Isaac Westerman found room around the edge of the Trojan defensive line and got the Bears on the board.

The 2nd half began with Pleasant Valley once again moving the ball downfield and quickly finding the end-zone once again.  This time via a long 31 yard run by Chris Ward who found room around the right side of the Parkland defense and after shaking off a few defenders, found paydirt.  With 9:12 remaining in the 3rd quarter, it was Parkland 42, Pleasant Valley 13.  The struggles for Parkland continued in to the 3rd quarter as a long run by Caleb Corsa ended in disaster as he was stripped of the ball deep in Pleasant Valley territory.  The Bears however were unable to do anything with this gift and were forced to punt the ball away.  The punt however, was blocked by the Trojan’s Jason Brubacher and rolled out of the end-zone for a safety.

Corsa seemingly took the turnover to heart and would account for the next two Trojan scores, putting Parkland up 51-13 with just under a minute left in the 3rd quarter.

With just under 7 and a half minutes left in the game, Parkland’s Justin Barnes capped the scoring for the evening as he found room around the right side of the Bears’ defense and scored from 21 yards out to push the score to 58-13 in favor of the Trojans.

With the victory, Parkland moves to 4-0 on the season and will travel to Nazareth next week for a battle of currently undefeated EPC teams. Nazareth is slated to face off against Bethlehem Freedom (1-3) this Friday at BASD stadium in Bethlehem.  Pleasant Valley falls to 1-3 on the year and will travel to East Stroudsburg South next week. The Cavaliers will face off this Friday against Allen (03-0)at home.
