The Penn Cambria Panthers improved to 4-0 with a big victory over the Bedford Bison with a final score of 33-6. Everything was working for the Panthers with great defense and effectiveness from the run and pass game. Quarterback Brady Jones finished with 88 passing yards, a passing touchdown, 46 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns. Coach Felus was very pleased with his quarterbacks performance tonight after relying heavily on the run a week ago.
Coach Felus said, “Last week, we kept the ball on the ground the whole second half. Took the air out of the football. Some people may think it is uncharacteristic of us, but we wanna be balanced in the sense that we look at who we think needs to touch the ball and we have been spreading it around these last few weeks, which makes it tough for defenses to prepare for. Brady Jones did a very good job. He took what the defense gave us, could have done better with our RPO stuff, but he’s a gutsy player, he has a lot of moxie. Moving forward we expect even more from him.”
Another player that led the charge for the Panthers was Mason Mento. He finished the night with 77 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also made very big plays on defense to lead the Panthers to victory.
Mento said, “I give it all to my offensive line. They did a hell of a job to get me in the zone.”
Along with all of that, Blake Lilly caught the Panthers lone receiving touchdown tonight. Gavin Harrold and Grant Gides both had interceptions on defense.
Bedford on the other hand struggled to move the ball offensively and struggled to stop Penn Cambria’s offense. The Panthers were able to capitalize off of the turnovers they forced, but Bedford could not and that was ultimately a big factor in the result from the game.
The Bisons lone touchdown came from quarterback Quincy Swaim on a 57 yard run. Swaim also intercepted a pass on defense tonight.
Next week, Penn Cambria will host Central Cambria and Bedford will travel to Chestnut Ridge.
