Penn Cambria welcomed Bishop Guilfoyle into Cresson, PA tonight for the LHAC Championship game. Penn Cambria found themselves starting play with their best record in thirty five years, while Bishop Guilfoyle has been in this position much more recently. Both teams combined for 45 total points but it was defense that ended up deciding the game as Penn Cambria stopped the Bishop Guilfoyle offense late in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Penn Cambria elected to receive the ball to start the game, and after a touch back they started at their own 20 yard line. Brady Jones started the game with a 20 yard pass to Gavin Harrold. At the 40 yard line Penn Cambria gained 4 yards and fumbled, an issue they have had all year, Penn Cambria would recover their own fumble. After a few penalties Penn Cambria would found itself with a 1st & 20 at their own 46 yard line, Mason Mento gained 18 yards to get them back onto Bishop Guilfoyle’s side of the field. With 8:18 left in the first quarter Penn Cambria would convert on a 4th and 1 to continue the drive and led to a Brady Jones passing touchdown to Gavin Harrold to open the scoring on the night. After a failed two point conversion Penn Cambria led 6-0. An 80 yard drive to start the night. Bishop Guilfoyle received the kickoff and started their drive at their own 26 yard line, and proceeded to turn the ball over quickly as Marcus Eckenrode of Penn Cambria intercepted a Chase Kissell pass to give the ball back to the Penn Cambria offense on the Bishop Guilfoyle 41 yard line. On first down Brady Jones rushed for 8 yards, and converted a first down on 2nd and 2 but would give the ball right back to Bishop Guilfoyle with a fumble with 3:14 remaining in the first quarter. Bishop Guilfoyle struggled to get any momentum going in the first quarter and gave the ball back to Penn Cambria after a failed fourth down conversion. Penn Cambria would keep the lead, 6-0, heading into the second quarter.

Penn Cambria would get nothing going to start the second, and after a punt they pinned Bishop Guilfoyle at their own 1 yard line. On the first play of the drive Chase Kissell would complete a pass to Taurean Consiglio for 45 yards, and after a Bishop Guilfoyle penalty they handed the ball off to Hamilton Gates who would gain 19 yards with 9:00 left in the second quarter. Chase Kissell would gain 19 yards on a scramble to set up a touchdown pass to Consiglio, after a successful point after Bishop Guilfoyle led 7-6 with 7:00 left in the second quarter. Penn Cambria got the ball back and was unable to do anything with it on offense. On fourth down Penn Cambria set up to punt but the snap would be botched causing Guilfoyle to recover the ball at the Penn Cambria 1 yard line. Bishop Guilfoyle’s Taurean Consiglio was stuffed on first and goal, an unsportsmanlike penalty on both sides would keep the ball at the one yard line. On second and goal Consiglio found the end zone and after a second successful point after attempt the momentum had swung to Bishop Guilfoyle as they lead 14-6. Penn Cambria took over at their own 33 yard line with 4:25 remaining in the second quarter. After Brady Jones rushed for a first down on 3rd and 15, and Gavin Harrold picked up a first down of his own. Harrold scored his second touch down of the night and Penn Cambria would successfully convert a two point conversion to tie the game 14-14.

Bishop Guilfoyle received the ball to start the third quarter, they returned the kick to their own 35 yard line. Their offense would stumble coming out of halftime and they did not do anything. On fourth down Bishop Guilfoyle decided to punt the ball to Penn Cambria but it was blocked by Penn Cambria’s Derek Hite and recovered at the Bishop Guilfoyle 30 yard line. Penn Cambria failed to convert on third and fourth down and turned the ball over on downs. Bishop Guilfoyle once again struggled to get anything going and punt the ball back to Penn Cambria. With 8:13 in the third quarter, Thomas Plunkett fumbled the ball away allowing for Bishop Guilfoyle to recover and take over on Penn Cambria’s 45 yard line. On 3rd and 16 Chase Kissell completed a pass to Hamilton Gate for 25 yards. Bishop Guilfoyle, again, struggled to gain momentum from there and on 2nd and 8 Chase Kissell would get pressured behind the line of scrimmage and spike the ball into the ground to charge Bishop Guilfoyle with an intentional grounding penalty leading to a punt on 4th and 22. Penn Cambria started their drive on their own 22 yard line, Mason Mento gained 12 yards with 5:12 left, and another 12 yards with 4:58 seconds giving Penn Cambria back to back first downs. On 3rd and 7 with 3:13 remaining in the third Brady Jones completed a pass for a first down on the Bishop Guilfoyle 20 yard line. That set up another Gavin Harrold touchdown to make it 20-14 Penn Cambria. Bishop Guilfoyle received the kickoff and start at their own 25 yard line. Once again they could not get any offensive momentum going in the third quarter and they would punt the ball back to Penn Cambria.

Gavin Harrold led the Penn Cambria offense down the field to set up a rushing touchdown by Brady Jones, and after a successful 2 point conversion Penn Cambria looked to be in control of the game as they led 28-14. Bishop Guilfoyle took over in the fourth and looked to get their offense back on track. Chase Kissell and Hamilton Gates led Bishop Guilfoyle down the field to score a touchdown to cut the Penn Cambria lead to 7 points as the Panthers would be leading 28-21. Bishop Guilfoyle kicked to Penn Cambria’s Blake Lilly who returned the kick to the Penn Cambria 45 yard line, but with 5:34 left Mason Mento would fumble the ball and Guilfoyle would recover. A few things would happen as Bishop Guilfoyle would march down the field, they would burn their timeouts, and a lot of time would be eaten off the clock. Chase Kissell led the Marauders back down the field and into the Panthers 10 yard line where Penn Cambria put up an impressive defensive effort to force the Marauders to have to convert on fourth down. Bishop Guifoyle would eventually find the endzone as Kissell found Hamilton Gates for a touchdown. It would be 28-27 Penn Cambria, Bishop Guilfoyle tried for a two point conversion. They would be successful on the conversion, or at least that’s how it looked, but a penalty would be called on Bishop Guilfoyle pushing the back and removing the 2 points off the score board. The score remained 28-27 as Bishop Guilfoyle lined up for the extra point to try to set up a tie game. Bishop Guilfoyle missed the extra point causing Penn Cambria to keep the lead. Bishop Guilfoyle proceeded to pull off an onside kick and recover the ball to set themselves up to score and win the LHAC Championship. With no time outs remaining and 30 seconds on the clock, Kissell set the Bishop Guilfoyle offense up with quick passes to the sideline, but Kissell completed a pass over the middle of the field with time expiring and before they could spike the ball the clock hit 00:00.

Penn Cambria had pulled off a 28-27 win, claiming the LHAC Championship and having its first undefeated season in 35 years.
