Every year, 110,000 fans, regardless of political party, gender, or age gather for a simple premise: wear white. Since its inception in 2004, the Whiteout has exploded into a spectacle like none other. Although the days of hosting Ohio State in the Whiteout are over, it is still a sight not to be taken for granted. After a tough loss to the aforementioned Ohio State a week ago, Penn State responded with an incredible effort against the defending National Championship runner-up the Washington Huskies.
Here’s what happened throughout the game:
Washington got the ball to start. Having the Penn State defense on the field first for the Whiteout can bring goosebumps to any team. We all remember when Michigan was forced to call a timeout on the opening play that sent Beaver Stadium into a frenzy. Washington was not going to make the same mistake as teams in the past did. The Huskies started the game moving the ball further and further down the field. They had to settle for three early points, and the kick doinked off the upright, no good.
With Penn State catching a break, they were determined to not allow for slow starts like they’ve had in previous weeks. As they approached the redzone, they wanted 7 instead of 3. Penn State got too comfortable last week settling for 3, and knew they needed 7 more often. Beau Pribula entered the game and scampered in for a 8-yard score, PSU led 7-0.

After the debacle at the goal line a week ago, Penn State made sure to give Tyler Warren his fair share or red zone touches. He was able to score twice within 7 minutes, both on goal line runs.

Late into the 2nd half, and former 5-star Southern Columbia Alum Julian Fleming would catch his first TD of his Penn State career.
After slow starts time and again in 2024, Penn State put 28 first half points, and allowed 0.
In the 2nd half, it was more of the same in the prior 30 minutes. Washington got a pair of field goals to make it more respectable. With a 28-6 lead, Kaytron Allen was able to get into the endzone late into the 4th quarter to make the final score 35-6 Nittany Lions.
They needed this, bad. The fallout from Penn State’s loss to Ohio State set the program back quite a bit. This win was a breath of fresh air on a program that had bad breath this week. Speaking on the win, James Franklin said, “ It’s great to get a lot of guys involved, we need more of that. I’m proud of my guys. We will continue to invest to get a bunch of guys the ball.”
This was probably the best Penn State has looked all year. They played a complete 60 minutes, something they haven’t been able to do all year. Penn State will be at Purdue next Saturday at 3:30.
