The Penn-Trafford Warriors boosted their record to 2-1 after beating the Moon Tigers 14-7 at Warrior Stadium Friday night.
Jonny Lovre started as Warrior QB and threw for 114 yards throughout the game. Lovre handed it off to Penn-Trafford’s Tasso Whipple for a run, which was a part of Whipple’s 161 total rushing yards, then the following play threw a 40-yard pass to Jesse Lisbon in the endzone. After kicking the extra point, the Warriors were up 7-0 with 8:34 left in the first quarter.

Moon tried to counter the Warriors by sending in RB Nazir Brookins, a 220-pound senior, who bulldozed his way past Penn-Trafford’s defense. The Warriors were eventually able to stop the Tigers, including a sack by Whipple.
Moon punted on fourth down, yet the Warriors quickly gave the ball back. Whipple was injured and escorted off the field with 5:35 left in the first, but came back on defense on Moon’s next possession, and continued to play throughout the rest of the game.
Brookins pushed his way down the field, however, another big sack by Whipple caused a 14-yard loss and fourth down. Moon was forced to punt again, but the Warriors did not make much progress to end the first quarter.
Opening up the second quarter, Lovre had short passes to Dom Smith, then a long throw to Tyler Boss on fourth and 6th to make a first down on the Tiger’s 14-yard line. On the next play, Moon’s Xavier Moyer tackled Whipple, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Tiger Christopher Lindsey.
Cross threw a few short passes to Kyden Kulvanish, who worked with Cross to get down the field onto the 35. Whipple caused a fumble, then Jessie Lisbon recovered it, which gave the Warriors possession of the ball. The Tiger’s defense stopped the Warriors from scoring for the rest of the half.
At the start of the second half, Moon quickly gave up the ball to the Warriors. Derek Carr, acting as QB, handed the ball off to Whipple, who rushed over 70 yards down the field for a touchdown with 8:45 left in the third. Logan Hunter made the extra point (2/2 for the night), putting the Warriors up 14-0.
Moon resorted to a passing game following the Warrior touchdown, completing a few passes to Nicholas Prozzoly, and eventually a touchdown throw from Cross to Paul Bronaugh with 5:40 left in the 3rd.

Two big rushes, one from Whipple, the other from Carr, who had 98 rushing yards throughout the game, allowed the Warriors to push their way down the field, but a huge sack from Bailey Simon ended the Warrior’s rush.
Moon took over and Cross completed a deep pass to Jared Moyer, but on the next play, Penn-Trafford’s Jack Weishaar intercepted the ball on the Warrior’s own 20-yard line going into the fourth quarter.
Xavier Moyer and Paul Bronaugh carried the Tiger’s defense to stop Penn-Trafford from advancing. Two failed passes were overridden by Jared Moyer’s catch, which left Moon at 3rd and 2. A Penn-Trafford sack pushed back the Tigers to 4th and 5.
Moon went for it on fourth down, and a quick interception by Smith with 4:01 left in the game ended the Tiger’s run. Penn-Trafford didn’t have possession for long; Brookins took over on defense and forced the Warriors to punt on 4th and 12.
Moon trekked their way across the field, and Cross had a big run for a gain of 15. Throughout the game, Cross was a passing and running threat, often keeping the ball and running for significant yards.
Boss knocked down Moon’s next two touchdown-range passes with help from Carr, winding the clock down to 35 seconds, and 4th and 25 for Moon. Cross tried to run the ball, and successfully dodged a few Warriors, but Weishaar had the game-winning tackle that forced a fumble and recovered it, leading to a Penn-Trafford victory.
