Penns Manor fumbles away game against Northern Cambria!
GRSN HERITAGE CONFERENCE GAME OF THE WEEK!
Northern Cambria Colts (3-4) @ Penns Manor Comets (3-4)
Last Meeting 10/13/24 NC 25 @ PM 8
In a game with big D6 1 A implications the Northern Cambria Colts beat the host Penns Manor Comets on a rare Saturday night game 27-10! The Colts move up to the #5 spot and the Comets are now #7 but with two tough games left, they could miss out on the playoffs. I felt the Colts were the better team due to their playmakers and they put on a show last night and got help from a slew of Comet errors.
The first quarter was what I expected, two teams with their seasons on the line playing smash mouth football. The Colts got the ball first and drove inside the Comets 20 before being stopped on 4th and one. The Comets drove to midfield before punting. Brady Lewis hit a super 50 yard punt that was downed at the Colts one by Issac Illig. The Colts drove out from their one yard line eating up the rest of the quarter. Freshman Max Sunseri intercepted a NC pass on the first play of the second quarter to end the drive. The Comets went three and out and punted but the return was fumbled and recovered by Illig at the Colts 16. The drive stalled and Ty Brendlinger made it 3-0 on a field goal.
One of those skilled players I was talking about is Malik Fox who returned the kickoff to midfield. Two plays later Levi Czar raced down the left sideline 44 yards for a touchdown. The Colts would never trail after this. The Comets went on a four minute drive crossing into Colts territory when Fox struck again. With the runner being held up Fox stripped it right out of his hands and raced 53 yards for a touchdown. With just over a minute to go in the half the Comets got the ball back. Tyler Cooper hit Justin Vojtek on a 40 yard pass to get into the red zone with 22 seconds to go in the half. The Comets went backwards on a couple of penalties and the half ended when Brady Hoover picked off a screen pass. Halftime NC 13 PM 3
The Comets started the second half the same way they ended the first half with a turnover. Fox took another ball away, this one I got on video. The Colts went three and out and a bad snap gave the Comets the ball on the Colts 17. Two plays later Brady Lewis scored and it was 13-10 Colts. Both teams punted on their next possessions.
The Colts would go 61 yards in 70 seconds on their next drive. Two more playmakers for the Colts stepped up. Quarterback Daniel Farrell hit Zak” the Hammer” Kirsch for 50 yards. On the next play with Kirsch in the Wildcat, he returned the favorite hitting Farrell for a touchdown. The Comets down ten again drove 48 yards in about six minutes but fumbled in the red zone again. Two plays later Czar raced 80 yards for his second touchdown. The Comets next drive would end with a Kirsch interception. The final five minutes seemed to take an hour but resulted in no points.
