
Peters Township defeats Bethel Park 31-28 in thriller

In the first quarter, Peters Township started with the ball and finished the drive with a run-in touchdown by Nick McCullough to give Peters Township a 7-0 lead while chewing up half the clock in the first quarter. On Bethel Park’s first drive, they responded a minute later thanks to a fifty-yard touchdown catch by Ryan Petras to make it a 7-7 game with 5:29 left to go in the first quarter. On both second drives, Peter Township punted, and Bethel Park quickly turned the ball over on downs at midfield to end the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Peters Township took a minute and fifteen seconds to add another touchdown as Nick McCullough scored his second touchdown on a thirteen-yard run to the house to make it a 14-7 game. Bethel Park’s offense struggled, quickly punting the ball back to Peters Township. Peters Township’s drive ended with a third touchdown by Nick McCullough, but this time, a three-yard run in for the 21-7 lead with 4:02 left in the second quarter. Bethel Park responded with forty-five seconds left of the fourth quarter, thanks to a quarterback sneak by Tanner Pfeuffer to make it a 21-14 game heading into halftime.
Bethel Park started with the ball to start the second half, and the drive quickly ended with seven more points going on the board for Bethel Park as Pfeuffer threw his second touchdown from the fifty-yard line, but this time from Ja Vaughn Moore to tie the game at 21. Peters Township answers after the Bethel Park touchdown, but kicker Anthony Maiello hits a twenty-yard field goal to make it a 24-21 lead for Peters Township at the halfway point of the third quarter. The struggles of Bethel Park on offense came back on their next drive as Peters Township forced a turnover on downs at midfield. Peters Township attempted a thirty-yard field goal to cap off the drive, but the attempt was no good as the ball hit off the left upright.
Bethel Park took advantage of the missed field goal and took the lead halfway to the fourth quarter when Clancy Orie punched it to give Bethel Park their first lead. Bethel Park’s defense caused a fumble and a recovery to give Bethel Park the ball at midfield on Peters Township’s next drive. Bethel Park capped off the drive with a forty-yard field goal attempt but was blocked by Nick McCullough to keep it a 28-24 game with 4:48 left to go.

Peters Township marched their way the whole way down the field and into the end zone on a one-yard touchdown run by Nick Courie to give Peters Township a 31-28 lead with forty-three seconds to go.

Bethel Park started the drive at their twenty-yard line and one timeout, but the potential game-winning drive quickly ended a few plays later as Peters Township’s Reston Lehman caused the first and only interception of the game to secure a 31-28 win for Peters Township.
