On Friday, September 12th, the Trinity Hillers hosted the Peters Township Indians in Washington. Peters Township prevailed 31-12 thanks to some early splash plays on offense and defense.
The Hillers punted it away after stalling on their first drive, and Peters took it down the field on a promising looking drive, but after two flags for holding and offensive pass interference, the Indians had to settle for a field goal.
Trinity punted again on their second drive, but then Chase Kostelniks scooped up a loose ball on defense and got the ball right back. They didn’t have the ball long though as PJ Luke climbed the ladder to pick off Jonah Williamson to end the first quarter.
Peters then marched the ball down the field and capped off the drive with the Villanova commit Nolan Dilucia connecting with Reston Lehman to extend the lead to double digits, 10-0. The scoring didn’t end there for the Indians, as Lucas Shenafelt snagged a Williamson pass for an insane one-handed pick six to increase the lead to three scores, 17-0.
The Indians defense proceeded to intercept Williamson for a third time in the half as Lucas Rost came up with an easy takeaway for Peters. Dilucia added on to the first half lead for Peters with a touchdown strike to Rost to push the lead to 24-0 to close out the second quarter.
To start the second half the Indians took advantage of great field position, as Cole Neupaver punched it in the endzone for a thirteen yard touchdown to extend their cushion 31-0. Trinity’s defense held Peters Township scoreless for the remainder of the game, and the offense woke up on their first drive of third quarter.
Williamson found Ayvari Chandler for a huge gain down inside the Peters five yard line, and then found the endzone on a QB keeper to inch a tiny bit closer, 31-6. Trinity forced a three-and-out on defense to start the fourth quarter, then took the ball down to the Indian ten yard line. The offense stalled though as Peters made a goal line stand and forced a turnover on downs. Following another Indian punt, Trinity found the end zone with under two minutes to play courtesy of a juggling grab in the back of the endzone from Kostelniks. Peters ran out the remainder of the clock and leave Trinity still undefeated.
Peters Township (4-0) takes on West Alleghany next Friday and Trinity (1-3) will battle Bethel park.
