On Friday, Oct. 3, the Peters Township Indians used a late surge to defeat the Moon Area Tigers 21-10.
The first quarter of the game was anything but exciting. Moon and Peters traded punts three times as the first frame came to an end.
Ian Watson started the second frame with a fumble recovery to give the Indians the ball inside of Moon territory, but Peters turned the ball over on downs. Moon punted the ball away on their next offensive possession, but got the ball right back courtesy of a Myles Turner interception.
Moon gave the ball away with a turnover on downs, but picked off Nolan Dilucia for the second straight drive. This time AJ Buford came away with the pick. The Tigers got a field goal off the takeaway with 2:45 left in the half to go up 3-0. With some solid carries from Cole Neupaver it looked like Peters would finally get on the board, but the Indians fumbled it away with less than a minute to go. The half ended 3-0 with Moon in front.
The Tiger’s momentum carried into the third quarter, as Paul Bronaugh recovered a fumble deep inside of Peters territory and capped it off with an Andrew Cross seventeen-yard touchdown.
As the whispers of “upset” started to trickle through the crowd, the Indians needed to find some sort of offense. Peters did just that to end the third quarter. Dilucia and the offense marched the ball down the field and capped off a five minute drive with a touchdown pass to PJ Luke to bring the Indians within three.
Moon missed a forty-seven yard field goal attempt and from that point on in the fourth, it was all Peters. Dilucia hit Reston Lehman to put the Indians on top for the first time all night, 14-10. Moon turned the ball over with an interception from Lucas Rost which set up Cole Neupaver to scamper into the endzone to put the icing on the cake. Jeremy Poletti sealed the deal with a pick as Peters ran out the remaining five minutes and secured the victory to remain undefeated.
Peters Township (7-0) looks to remain undefeated as they take on South Fayette next week, and Moon Area (3-3) takes on winless Baldwin.
