Week 1 Central @ Philipsburg by PAFootball Newsdotcom

PHILIPSBURG STADIUM – On Friday night Philipsburg-Osceola rushed for 6 touchdowns and 347 yards to beat the Central Dragons in week 1 of the 2025 season. A dominant showing by the Mounties offensive line and running backs carried them to a very strong start.

On the second play from scrimmage sophomore Running Back Demarcus Law took a pass from Quarterback Archer Baughman 64 yards to set the tone with less than a minute of game played.

However, Central would answer, when they capped a 13 play drive with a 16 yard run by QB Carter Schenk, making it 7-6 in favor of the Mounties.

Only two plays later, Demarcus Law would find the endzone again, this time on a 57 yard touchdown run, his second 50+ yard td of the evening.

In the second quarter, the explosive plays would continue, as Jesse Muthler would find Schenk for his second of three touchdowns on the evening, a 67 yard touchdown to cut the Mountie lead to 9 with 10:01 left in the second quarter. The Dragons used both Schenk and Muthler at QB tonight, mixing up the offensive looks for the defense.

Following the early bought of explosive touchdowns, the Mounties would turn things over to their offensive line, which would grind out a 15 play, 8:09 minute long drive which would be capped by a Colton Chapman 1 yard touchdown run to make it 28 – 12 in favor of the Mounties with 1:52 left in the half. The Dragons would complete the two minute drill as Schenk scored his third touchdown of the night, a 1 yard QB sneak to cut the lead to 10 going into the half.

The Dragons would use this late touchdown to swing momentum, as Brooks Decker took the opening kickoff 70 yards to the house to reduce the lead to 4 in favor of the Mounties. Central would try to capitalize on their momentum with a onside kick recovered by the Dragons, however their drive would stall out following two incomplete passes.

From here the Mounties would start to pull away, scoring 20 unanswered in the last 23:47 of the game. Rushing touchdowns from Baughman, Chapman, and Jayden Jones would put the Mounties up 48 – 24, where the final would end up.

The Mounties rushed for 347 yards, and completely dominated the point of attack. When asked about the linemen play, Mountie RB Colton Chapman would say “it’s awesome” and point out that each guy blocked for one another enroute to a 6 rushing touchdown performance for the Mounties.

For the Dragons, Jesse Muthler looked very good, passing for 217 and a touchdown. Carter Schenk also showed his versatility as a receiver, runner, and signal caller for the Dragons with 3 td’s.

What’s next – The Dragons will open at home against Greater Johnstown (0-1) next week. Meanwhile the Mounties will head to Chestnut Ridge (1-0).
