PIAA Fall Sports Officials Appreciation Week
Every week in District 11, no matter what season we are in, should be sports officials appreciation week. It goes without saying, that without the officials there are no games. These men and women do this thankless job, not for the money, but because it is there way of giving back to the sports they love. Some are former players, or coaches and some just have a passion for the game they officiate. The reason does not matter, what matters is that them doing their job enables our student athletes to compete in the sports they love and we get cheer and support them. I think we need to do everything we can, to let all the officials in District 11 and every District around the state at every game this week, know that we appreciate them and the service they provide to high school sports. When you see an official this week say thank you, wave or just smile and show your appreciation for what they do. It is obvious that there is a shortage of officials, that’s why there are so many football games on a Thursday night. It’s not a decision to compete with the NFL, there’s not enough young officials to replace the ones that retire, and not just in fall sports but all sports, all year round.
