PITTSBURGH, PA –  The name ‘Miller’ isn’t new to Pittsburgh football.

Jared Miller was a four year starter for the Pitt football program from 1993-1996. While at Pitt, Miller started at guard as a freshman, where he blocked for future hall-of-fame running back Curtis Martin. Miller later transitioned over to defensive end, where he would start for the next three years. Following his Pitt career, he would be hired as an assistant coach at Pine-Richland, under former Pitt teammate Eric Kasperowicz. This is where Miller’s son, Luke, would blossom into a defensive star for the Rams.

During his time with the Rams, Miller was the teams leading tackler from 2019 to 2021. This includes a 2020 Class 5A State Championship, in which he had a game high 16 tackles vs Erie Cathedral Prep. During that season, Miller had over 100 total tackles, including 63 solo and 19 for loss. The Rams would finish the season ranked no. 22 in the USA Today Super 25.

Miller would receive an offer from Kent State on May 14, 2020 and just two days later announced his commitment. Despite seeing limited playing time as a freshman, he would appear in one game against Northern Illinois. In December 2022, head coach Sean Lewis would depart to be Colorado’s offensive coordinator. Not long after, Miller would also leave the Kent State program, searching for a new home.

Just two months after entering the transfer portal, it was announced that he would be coming home to Pittsburgh to play for the Duquesne Dukes. Miller wouldn’t see any playing time in 2023, but was ready to make a big impact to start out his sophomore campaign. As of week three, Miller leads the team in total tackles (23), solo (14), and assists (9). A bulk of these came in last week’s upset against no. 20 Youngstown State. Not only was this a historic game for the program, but for Miller himself. With 14 tackles, the most in a game by any NEC defender so far this season, Miller would earn both NEC Rookie of the Week and Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Duquesne returns home on Saturday to take on West Virginia Wesleyan at Rooney Field.
