It was a great Thursday night for one District 7 Squad.

The Pittsburgh Central Catholic Vikings hosted their second and final game this year at Carnegie Mellon University, and they put on a show for their fans who came out.  The stage was set for a great matchup between two division rivals. They were challenged by the Norwin Knights.

From the get-go, it was evident that the Vikings were ready to play. The Knights, after a very quick opening drive, punted the ball back, and the Vikings wasted no time putting points on the board. Running back Jayden Alexander broke out for a huge run that began from their own territory less than three minutes into the first quarter, to put the Vikings up 7-0.

The Vikings had a few drives before they ended up scoring again, right at the end of the first quarter. Tight end and future Duke player Colsen Gatten took it in to put the Vikings up 14-0 with just a few seconds remaining in the opening frame. But that was not all Gatten would do. Less than four minutes into the second quarter, Gatten took it in for his second score in less than five minutes of play.

The Knights’ struggles were evident throughout the first half, as they failed to put any points on the board through the first 24 minutes of the game. They had some drives near the end of the half that looked promising, but the Vikings brought good defensive pressure.

The second half began slowly for both teams. The Vikings had one drive with two rushing touchdowns reversed due to holding penalties. That drive ended with a 3rd and 32 and the Vikings getting backed up to midfield with roughly six offensive penalties on that drive alone.

The Knights finally managed to put points on the board late in the third quarter, as Potter Brozeski hauled it in to the end zone for the touchdown, but the extra point bounced off the upright rather loudly and was ruled to be no good. Brozeski ended up being the lone source of the Knights’ points for the entire night.

But the Vikings were not satisfied with a mere two-score lead. Just 15 seconds after the Knights scored, the Vikings took the ball to the opposite end zone at the hands of running back Roman Thompson.

The Vikings would score one more touchdown late in the fourth quarter for the final score of 35-6. Pittsburgh Central Catholic remains dominant in District 7 with just one loss on th

eir record this season, now sitting at 7-1. Norwin falls to 5-3.

The Pittsburgh Central Catholic Vikings will play their final two regular season games on the road. They take on the Seneca Valley Raiders next Friday. The Norwin Knights will play their final two regular season contests at home, beginning next friday against the Canon-McMillan Big Macs.
