A Postseason Showdown on Friday Night as District 9 Champs Central Clarion visits the District 10 Champs Farrell. – Game Preview
The Farrell Steelers have had a season that from the outside can appear to be less impressive than it was. Their 7-5 record may scream mediocrity but don’t sleep on these Steelers. After a season with losses to Hickory, Sharon and Cathedral Prep as well as Ursuline (OH) the Steelers rolled through District 10’s AA division and picked up their fourth straight district crown. The Steelers have now won 17 district 10 championships and 2 more in District 7.
Farrell has been plagued by penalties this season as noted in Shane Lux’s article from Sunday, but they have the talent to play with much bigger schools in competitive games. Games that could have easily resulted in Steeler wins had they gotten a few breaks. Those bigger opponents aside, Farrell won AA games they played by an average of 34 points.
Farrell is ready for another PIAA run if they can get past the Wildcats. The 4-time PIAA 1A champions are certainly capable of the task but will need to play clean football without the burden of the penalties they have drawn in previous games.
For The Central Clarion Wildcats it has been a year with complete domination of everyone they have faced. A third straight district 9 AA title, and a lot of potential to make a run in the PIAA tournament. The closest game of the season coming in the district championship when Karns City was able to remain tied with Central Clarion at halftime 7-7 before the Wildcats put together a great 3rd quarter and finished the game with a victory 37-20. Every other game this year for Central Clarion has involved a victory of 34 points or more.
Star Quarterback Jase Ferguson has been incredible including almost 9800 yard passing in his career and 141 touchdowns so far. The Central Clarion Wildcats are primed for a deep PIAA run but first up is the always dangerous Steelers. The Wildcats will stick with what got them to this point and expect Ferguson can throw the ball well against Farrell.
This will certainly be a District 9 vs District 10 heavy weight bout on Friday at 7pm in Farrell.
