SLATINGTON- The Pottsviile Crimson Tide is now 2-0 versus the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South in the PIAA District XI 4A playoffs. Last week the Tide knocked off perennial champion Bethlehem Catholic 18-12. Saturday at Northern Lehigh’s Bulldog Stadium Pottsville amassed 265 rushing yards in a dominating performance that led to a 34-7 thrashing of Allentown Central Catholic before a packed house on a seasonably cold night.

After a scoreless first quarter each team exchanged touchdowns in the second stanza. Pottsville got on the scoreboard first as quarterback Damon Yost ran it from 11 yards out. Central Catholic answered back on their ensuing drive with quarterback Matt Rauscher burrowing his way in from a yard out.

A 27 point barrage followed by the Tide to put the game on ice and giving Pottsville their first district XI title since 2006. Yost, who threw for 142 yards connected with Kevin Schenk on a back-shoulder throw for a 10 yard score with 4:46 left before half. A one yard quarterback sneak and a Kevin DiCello score from two yards out extended the lead to 28-7 heading into the final quarter.

The Pottsville defense was swarming all night long. Vikings leading rusher Jayden Williams was held to under 40 yards on 12 carries. They also pressured Rauscher all night as long in accounting for six sacks in the contest.

“We changed very little from we what we did against Bethlehem Catholic last week. We just tweaked some things here and there. They are quite similar teams. So our best practice came last week.” Pottsville coach Tom McGeoy stated.

Joey Ferraro closed out the scoring with a 1 yard run as the Tide (11-2) will advance to face District 4 champion Jersey Shore at a site and time to be announced next week, Allentown Central Catholic ends its season at 8-5.
