When: Friday, November 28, 7:00
Where: Lehighton HS
Who: Southern Columbia Tigers(13-1) v Lansdale Catholic Crusaders(12-2)
Last Meeting: This will be the first meeting between the two schools
What’s at Stake: With a win, Southern Columbia would go to its 23rd state title game and would be seeking its 15th title victory. If Lansdale Catholic is victorious, it would be their second ever trip to the state title game. The Crusaders won the AA state title in 2004 over Grove City.
The Matchup: After a year hiatus from a deep playoff run, and the school’s worst season since 1986, the Tigers are back in business, steamrolling their way to the state semifinals. After an opening week loss to Wyomissing, the team has rattled off 13 straight victories and have outscored four playoff opponents 179-67. Ayden Hockenbroch enters the game with 17 passing touchdowns and 1,226 yards, completing 60% of his passes. On the ground, the Tigers are led by Brayden Andrews and his 1,379 yards. He is averaging 9.5 yards per carry, while Grady Garcia has just shy of 1,000 yards and averages 8.4 per carry. Defensively, the Tigers are anchored by linebacker Talon Piatt, the team’s leading tackler with 89, 13 for a loss. The defense has racked up 137 TFLs.
Lansdale Catholic is led by senior quarterback Yeboa “Boa” Cobbold(Akron), who has run for 1,366 yards and passed for over 1,300. Against a high-powered Williams Valley Vikings team, he threw for two scores and ran 51 yards for another. The Crusaders broke away in the second half after leading 13-7 at the break. The Crusaders biggest strength might be their defense, though. Linebacker Braden Smith leads his team with over 120 tackles. DE Russell Holmes has been all-PCL for the last three seasons, and Asher Thickening picked off two passes against the Vikings last week, while Nick O’Brien also snagged an interception. O’Brien is also an offensive threat in the backfield and is often lined up in the WR spot as well. DB James Webb has also picked off seven passes this season.
