Protime Predictions

Not long ago Protime was asked to be part of a radio team that was going to broadcast area football games.  Suddenly memories of speaking in public that had haunted Protime for years came back into the picture.  Granted, describing a football game on the radio to thousands of people is vastly different than speaking live to 25-30 classmates.  But those forgotten memories shook off the dusty cobwebs of time and decided to make an appearance in the throes of Protime’s mind.

Extreme anxiety, sweating palms, shaking hands, a quivering voice which at times squeaked, panic, and fear all came into play every time Protime had to give a speech in high school.  In fact, when Protime went to college he put off taking the required speech class his freshman year.  Four years later he went to his guidance counselor the last semester of his senior year and got a list of courses that qualified as speech classes.  Near the bottom of the list was a class called the ‘History of American Television.’  “That’s the one,” said Protime after verifying it would qualify as a speech class but no actual speeches had to be given.

These days Protime can overcome his glossophobia and he never turns down a speaking engagement when asked to talk about his prognostication techniques, his crystal ball, and his flipping coin.  Last week the extraverted orator went 21-5 and now stands at 95-32 (.748) for the year.  The Prince of Predictions also known as The Peach of Speech will now unveil his picks for this week.

Bedford 5-0 @ Penn Cambria 5-0 – Protime’s Game of the Week should be a doozy.  Coach Kevin Steele’s Bedford Bisons are ranked 10th in 2A by PFN and Coach Nick Felus’ P.C. Panthers are 7th in 3A.  Bedford’s quarterback, Kevin Ressler has thrown for 4 TDs and run for another 6.  RB Ethan Weber has 640 yards running and has crossed the goal line 6 times.  Sam Sheppard is the boss of Bedford tacklers on a defense that has only allowed 22 points in 5 games.  Much heralded quarterback Garrett Harrold is the cog of the Panther offense.  He has 1,042 yards passing with 15 TDs.  He has rushed for 6 scores also.  RB Zach Grove is 6 yards shy of 600 yards and has scored 8 touchdowns.  WR Vinny Chirdon has 7 TD receptions for Penn Cambria.  The P.C. defense is led by Chirdon and Derek Hite, both of whom have 40 or more tackles.  Protime’s crystal ball says Bedford will give up more points than they’ve given up in 5 games, but they will still win 42-40.

Dallas 5-0 @ Hazleton 5-0 – If you live in the District 2 area this is the game to go see if you are a high school football fan.  These two teams are having fantastic years.  The Mountaineers are coming to Hazleton averaging 42 points a game, led by running back Parker Bolesta and sophomore quarterback Brady Zapoticky.  Bolesta has churned out 705 yards and 11 touchdowns, while Zapoticky has thrown for 581 yards and 6 TDs.  Placekicker Jace Chopyak is perfect on PATs and on a pair of field goals.  The Cougars signal caller, Tyler Wolfe, has tossed the rock for 1,086 yards and 15 scores, completing 72% of his passes.  RB Matt Buchman has rushed for 625 yards and 6 touchdowns.  The offensive line has 51 pancake blocks in 5 games.  Qayvon Minor leads the team with 58 tackles and Buchman is second with 40.  The coin flip goes to Hazleton 30-27.

Northern Bedford 5-0 @ Conemaugh Township 5-0 – The third of four games featuring undefeated 5-0 teams against each other has the N.B.C. Black Panthers against the C.T. Indians.  The Panthers’ offensive leaders are QB Eion Snyder with 952 yards passing with 10 TDs and RB Adam Johnson who has 693 yards rushing with 14 TDs.  Johnson has another 4 touchdowns receiving.  Defensively, Northern Bedford has picked off 9 opposition passes.  Leading tacklers are Ashton Detterline and Aaron Bowers.  The guide of Township’s offense is QB Tanner Shirley, who has 1,007 yards passing with 10 touchdowns.  WR Ethan Black has 25 grabs for 522 yards and 7 scores.  RB Jon Updyke has recorded 7 TDs.  Kicker Kyler Mauzy is pretty much automatic when booting extra points.  Mike Shonko leads the Indians in tackles and sacks.  Protime sees it Northern Bedford 32 Conemaugh Township 26.

Hamburg 5-0 @ Lancaster Catholic 5-0 – The Hawks fly into Lancaster for a big game with the Crusaders.  The Hawks are led by Xander Menapace their terrific signal caller who has 709 yards passing the ball with 8 TDs and RB Pierce Mason and his 847 yards rushing with 16 touchdowns.  The Crusaders counter with QB Will Crawford’s 887 yards through the air and 12 TDs.  WR Jaevon Parker has 398 yards in receptions and scored 7 TDs.  RB Elijah Cunningham has scored 5 touchdowns.  Protime had to consult the crystal ball for this game.  Lancaster Catholic 21 Hamburg 20.

Gateway 4-1 @ Hempfield (7) 5-0 – The Gators bring their explosive offense to Greensburg in the hopes of giving the Spartans their first loss.  QB Brad Birch has fired the football for 771 yards and 7 TDs to date.  His favorite target is Dallas Harper.  Hempfield is led by QB Jake Phillips who is having himself a year.  Jake has 1,153 yards passing with 11 TDs.  WR Ian Tuffs has caught passes for 433 yards.  RB Gino Caesar has scored 10 touchdowns.  Kicker Josh Reilly is deadly accurate.  Eli Binakonsky is the leading tackler on a stingy Spartan defense.  Hempfield’s been playing well, Gateway not so much.  Hempfield 28 Gateway 24.

Central Bucks East 5-0 @ Pennsbury 4-1 – The talk in District 1 is how well the Patriots of C.B. East are doing.  They are led by a bright young man named Ethan Shine who has racked up 1,006 rushing yards and has scored 13 touchdowns.  QB Pat Keller has passed for 572 yards and has thrown no interceptions.  The Patriot offensive line loves breakfast and it shows with 54 pancakes in 5 games.  On defense, Shine and Dan Vogelsong have over 40 tackles.  Pennsbury is also a big story this year.  After losing their opener to Coatesville, which made 17 consecutive losses, the Falcons have rebounded nicely under Coach Galen Snyder and put together 4 wins in a row.  The Falcons are led by Galamama Mulbah and his 606 yards rushing with 9 TDs.  Chris Karamis, Cade Gabbett, and Jake Mullery are some names to look for on defense for Pennsbury.  After the smoke clears it’s going to be the Patriots who emerge victorious 28-21.

Erie McDowell 4-1 @ Erie Cathedral Prep 3-2 – It’s time.  The big bopper up in Erie is here.  The McDowell Trojans’ head coach Brad Orlando says this may be his best team ever.  QB Ben Moore has 775 yards through the air with 11 TDs and zero interceptions.  WR Ray Jackson has 24 receptions and has 6 touchdowns.  RB Artis Simmons has traversed the field for 820 yards, scoring 7 times.  Kicker Alex Sontheimer is 24 of 25 in the PAT department and has nailed 4 FGs.  Troy Peterson heads up a very good Trojan defense.  The Ramblers of Cathedral Prep has used 2 QBs.  Carter Barnes has tossed 5 TDs and Luke Costello has chalked up 430 yards.  Wakeem Page is so very dangerous at wide receiver and Suhtain Lewis has rushed for 500 yards and 5 TDs.  Cole Constable has made all but one extra point and has split the uprights on 7 of 8 FG attempts.  Jyree Roberts heads up the Rambler defense.  This contest will be close with McDowell winning 38-34.

Selinsgrove 4-1 @ Mifflinburg 4-1 – Both teams’ only loss was to state ranked Jersey Shore.  The Seals’ Gavin Bastian and Mark Pastore both have over 500 yards rushing and each have scored 6 TDs.  Placekicker Carter young is 6 of 7 in booting field goals, plus has only one extra point failure.  The ‘D’ of Selinsgrove is led by top tackler Corey Rumberger and INT specialist Caleb Hicks who has 4 thefts to date.  The Wildcats of Mifflinburg are led offensively by QB Troy Dressler who has thrown for 926 yards and 8 TDs.  RB Andrew Diehl has found the end zone 6 times.  Lucas Whittaker is the wildest of Wildcats on defense.  IN a seesaw game, Protime has Selinsgrove coming out on top 28-26.
