A few weeks ago, Protime came home early with a couple of pizzas he purchased to surprise the lovely Mrs. P with supper so she didn’t have to cook. As he got out of the car, a gust of wind blew the charge card receipt out of the top box and down the street. Protime made a mad dash down the street in close pursuit of the cash register tape. Just as Protime balanced the pizza boxes to pick up the receipt, another gust of wind blew the thing farther down the street.
Finally, Protime stepped on the receipt, but when he lifted his shoe the piece of paper flew up in the air and Protime almost caught it like a receiver going out for a pass. The only problem was the pizzas started to fall to the ground. So, Protime made the wise decision to save the pizzas and forget about the pizza receipt. As Protime embarrassingly and dejectedly walked a block back to his house, every neighbor was gazing out their picture window with grins on their faces.
Well, Protime is grinning this week as he racked up 25 correct predictions out of 30 last week including prognosticating the correct winner and score of the game of the week between Upper St. Clair and Bethel Park won by USC 14-10. Oh, how he loves it when he does that. He sits at 169-46 (.786) for the year. Here are this week’s games as discerned by your darling diviner.
Conestoga Valley 8-0 @ Exeter Township 8-0 – Should be a good one up in Reading. The Buckskins of Conestoga Valley are led offensively by QB Sawyer Esbenshade and RB Teagen Ruble. Esbenshade has thrown for 1,535 yards and 16 touchdowns. Ruble is the leading rusher on the team and has scored 7 TDs. Seven wide receivers have 100 yards and eight wideouts have scored at least one touchdown catching passes. Seth Morgan is a one-man wrecking crew on defense for the Buckskins. He has twice as many tackles as anyone else. Isaiah Sensenig has 5 picks for Conestoga Valley.
Jayden Zandier leads the Eagle offense with 1,169 yards rushing and 17 scores. He was inserted at quarterback last week when starter, Riley Martinez, was injured. Martinez had thrown 14 TD passes in the first seven games. Logan Wegman leads the Exeter defense.
Protime thought long and hard about this one. Without overtime, he would have picked a tie, but he’s going with Exeter to win 31-28.
Pine-Richland 7-0 @ North Allegheny 7-1 – Pine-Richland is one of the top 5A teams in D7, while NA is one of the top 6A schools. Pine-Richland has a young QB by the name of Aaron Strader who has passed for 1,213 yards and 14 touchdowns. His top receiver is Jay Timmons. Running back, MacLane Miller, is the leading ground gainer and has crossed the goal line 6 times. Sam Heckert leads the very good Ram defense that has sacked opposing quarterbacks 22 times.
The Tigers of North Allegheny are led by QB Brady Brinkley, RB Luke Rohan, and WR James Donaldson. This game may come down to kickers and both teams have superb ones. Peter Notaro has booted 27 PATs and 7 FGs for NA, while Grant Argiro is a perfect 26 for 26 on extra points and 8 of 10 in the field goal department.
Protime flipped a coin for this contest and the Rams will beat the Tigers 27-24.
Easton 7-1 @ Bethlehem Freedom 8-0 – Here’s an interesting matchup from D11. Easton’s Red Rovers have a really good and balanced offense led by QB Cole Ordway. He has passed for 1,118 yards and 11 TDs. Running backs Dorian Thomas and William Day have accounted for 1,441 yards and 25 touchdowns. Thomas has the most yards with 788 and Day has the most TDs with 14. Mason Fleming leads the Red Rover ‘D’ in tackles. Andrew Biddle has 5 pick on a defense that has 14 in all.
Bethlehem Freedom also has a pretty balanced offense with QB Chase Walker chucking the ball for 1,614 yards and 16 TDs, and RB Aaron Beete running for 1,090 yards and 13 touchdowns. WR Shacre Colwell has grabbed 31 passes for 552 yards and 7 TDs. Jayden Macon heads up the Patriot defense that has 13 interceptions.
Protime is predicting the score to be Bethlehem Freedom 17 Easton 14.
Scranton Prep 7-1 @ Jersey Shore 6-2 – Prep and Shore will duke it out in this D2 and D4 inter-district contest. Scranton Prep’s Cavaliers are led by Louis Paris who is the quarterback. He’s passed for 1,012 yards and 9 touchdowns, plus he’s scrambled for 631 yards and 9 more scores. His top targets are Brady Holmes and Treyvon Dickey. Will McPartland has rushed for 634 yards and scored an even dozen rushing TDs.
The Jersey Shore Bulldog connection of Elijah Jordan to Evan Snyder is a main cog in the offense. Jordan has 1,781 yards throwing the pigskin with 20 touchdowns. Snyder has snared 48 passes for 902 yards and 11 TDs. Jordan will run the rock too as evidenced by his 494 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns. Bo Sechrist has brought down 85 opposing ball carriers to lead the ‘Dog defense.
The crystal ball says Jersey Shore 28 Scranton Prep 27.
