Protime Predictions – ‘Hi Dave’

First of all, Protime wishes everyone a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

A couple weeks ago when Protime did his civic duty and voted, he saw his neighbor walking in as Protime was walking out.  Protime smiled and said, “Hi Dave.”  His neighbor looked at Protime with an extremely confused look on his face, but said ‘hello’ back to Protime.  It was then Protime noticed a lady from church trailing Dave and he thought to himself, ‘I didn’t know she was married to my neighbor Dave because his wife just passed away last year.’

After doing some background checks (Protime related the story to Mrs. P who knows a lot about who’s married to who, people’s names, etc.), it was discovered that the man Protime said ‘hi’ to was not his neighbor Dave.  But the man’s name was really Dave.  That explains why Protime got that befuddled look from ‘Dave’ because Dave was thinking, ‘I never saw this guy in my life, how did he know my name?’  In conclusion, what are the odds a stranger (Protime) passes another stranger (Dave) in the street and calls him by his right name?

Well, what are the odds odds Protime will correctly predict most of the quarterfinal match-up winners this week?  He went 19-5 last week and sits at 267-65-1 for the year, an 80.3 percentage of accuracy.  Here are the Super Psychic’s surmises for the quarterfinals.

6A

Central Bucks South 28 Downingtown West 21 – Not too many people at the beginning of the year had these two teams vying for the District One 6A title.  But here they are.  Both are playing well and earned the right to be here.  Protime is giving a slight edge to the C.B. South Titans to whip the Whippets for the crown.

St. Joes Prep 31 Nazareth 14 – You just can’t pick against the #9 team in the country, even if they are playing an excellent football team.  The Hawks are in a different class and will move on.  The Blue Eagles of Nazareth had a great year.

North Allegheny 42 McDowell 31 – The McDowell Trojans have four losses.  Two are to Ohio teams, one to a New York team, and to NA.  This game should be a little closer than the first, but the NA Tigers are on the prowl for a berth in the finals and won’t be stopped this week.

Manheim Township 31 Harrisburg 28 – The first time these two played, Manheim won 38-6.  That won’t happen this time.  Harrisburg will be motivated and out for blood.  The Blue Streaks of Manheim will weather the storm and settle in.  The offense is hard to stop with a QB like Hayden Johnson and that will be the difference as Township beats the Cougars in a classic.

5A

Cocalico 24 Ephrata 21 – Both teams only have one defeat.  Cocalico’s loss came in their first game and they’ve been rolling ever since.  The Mountaineers of Ephrata give the Eagles a good fight, but it’s not enough.

Peters Township 34 Cathedral Prep 28 – Protime thinks Peters can win it all this year after their performance against Pine-Richland.  The PIAA has to figure where to put Prep as they’ve already had two byes in the playoffs.  That shouldn’t happen.  That said, the Indians scalp the Ramblers in a closer than expected contest.

Chester 21 Strath Haven 14 – The Clippers make the final four with their win over the Panthers of Strath Haven.  Chester has been knocking on this door for a couple of years now and Protime feels they finally break through.  But it’s a going to be tough as Strath Haven has a Hall of Fame coach in Kevin Clancy and he is a sly fox.

Imhotep 29 Delaware Valley 14 – These Panthers win their game by beating a red hot Del Val Warrior squad.  Tep is a solid football team and will more than likely meet Peters Township in the finals.

4A

Bishop McDevitt 49 Manheim Central 31 – The Crusaders are a machine offensively.  It will be very difficult for anyone to stop them.  The question is, can McDevitt be outscored?  The Barons may keep up with them for awhile but not for 48 minutes.

Aliquippa 23 McKeesport 20 – Here’s one of those games that could go either way.  Both teams are different, yet similar in ability.  Protime’s crystal ball has the Quips winning 6 out of 10 times.  But for the McKeesport Tigers, this could be one of those 4 in 10 they win.  Good luck to both squads and don’t be surprised this contest goes to overtime.

Selinsgrove 44 Juniata 20 – Selinsgrove won the first game early in the year.  They will win this game too.  The Seals are a very good football team and Aliquippa better be careful when they play next week if they both win.  The Indians have had a nice year, but all good things must come to an end as the saying goes.

Bonner-Prendie 13 Dallas 7 – Protime flipped a coin and is going with the Friars to make the final four.  Protime thinks it will be the first time ever the Friars have gotten that far.  The Mountaineers will make it difficult for Bonner-Prendie and may even win the game if Prendie makes too many mistakes.

3A

Belle Vernon 28 Avonworth 14 – The Leopards take down the Antelopes.  Isn’t this how it usually goes?  Belle Vernon has their sights set on the state finals once again and give Avonworth their first only defeat of the year.

Danville 28 Wyomissing 24 – It is really hard to slow down Madden Patrick and the Danville offense as he is such a good scrambler.  Protime thinks he will be the difference as the Ironmen advance by edging the Spartans.

Central 17 Hickory 13 – In a defensive struggle, the Scarlet Dragons survive the stinging effects of the Hickory Hornets.  The game could go either way.  Breaks will determine the winner.  Central actually looked sluggish for awhile against Clearfield last week.  They can’t do that this week and come away with the win.

Northwestern Lehigh 35 Scranton Prep 28 – The NW Tigers have it together and are clawing their way towards a state championship appearance.  The Prep Cavaliers are playing inspired football too and can picture a title game in their future.  Protime just has a feeling this is NW Lehigh’s year.

2A

Southern Columbia 21 BEA 20 – In Protime’s opinion, this may be one of the best games to see this week.  Make no mistake, BEA is very good and will have something cooked up for the Tigers.  The Bald Eagle defense is very, very good and Protime doesn’t think a lot of points will be scored despite the fact each team has an exceptional offense.  Southern has a top-notch defense too.  It’s going to come down to execution and mistakes.  It’s going to be like a chess match.

Westinghouse 20 Farrell 16 – The western compliment to the Southern-BEA game is this one.  Protime has the House Bulldogs winning but the Steelers are right there.  Farrell just may come out on top.  Both teams have quality players and both teams have great coaches in Donta Green (Westinghouse) and Anthony Pegues (Farrell).

Dunmore 26 Camp Hill 18 – The Bucks get the ‘W’ over the Lions and advance.  Camp Hill is somewhat of a surprise to be here, but they earned it.  Dunmore is not as much a surprise, that was expected.  Still, this should be a better game than many seem to think.

Steel Valley 25 Beaver Falls 20 – The second set of Ironmen win their quarter-final game (Danville are the Ironmen too).  This game will be a slobber-knocker till the end.  Beaver falls’ schedule prepared them for this and they will give Steel Valley all they can handle.

1A

South Williamsport 21 Cambria Heights 8 – The Mountaineers advance with a win over the Highlanders.  Both teams love to run the rock.  In this game South Williamsport does it a little bit better.

Redbank Valley 34 Cambridge Springs 22 – Redbank is aiming for a second state championship game in three years, but the Blue Devils stand in the way.  At times this year, the RBV Bulldogs have gotten off to slow starts.  That is not advisable against Cambridge Springs.  Redbank’s passing game will be a little too much for Cambridge Springs to handle.

Steelton-Highspire 37 Lackawanna Trail 32 – This game should be a real roof-raiser.  Protime thinks it goes down to who has the ball last.  The Steamrollers have the athletes to make things happen at the end of a game.  The Lions are a very good team and perhaps pull the upset….

South Side 27 Ft. Cherry 26 – This game too should be one of the best of all the games played.  Both teams are undefeated and playing superb ball.  Protime flipped his trusty coin, but it rolled down in a crack in the floor.  So, Protime is just taking a wild stab and says the Rams eke out the ‘W’ over the Rangers.
