Protime Predictions – Pet Peeves

Protime had a nice conversation with a long-time friend a couple weeks back.  During the chat, Protime’s pal mentioned that he had a pair of boxers named Peeves One and Peeves Two.  He usually only took one of his dogs at a time on a walk because he had trouble controlling them.  When he ran across people on the walk, some would ask to pet the dog and then they would ask the dog’s name.  “This is one of my pet Peeves,” he would answer.

Of course, Protime thought that was hilarious and he split his gut laughing so hard.  Then the thought occurred to Protime to air out two of his own pet peeves.  First, Protime gets a little irritated when driving on the 4-lane highway and a truck decides to pass another truck just when Protime decides to make his move.  It takes miles for truck #1 to get by truck #2 as each are going about 50 MPH.  Second peeve is he’d like to barf when someone eats smelly food and then stands like two inches from him when talking.  Protime usually holds his breath and then bends down to tie his shoe.

Last week, Protime garnered 21 out of 26 correct predictions.  That gives him a record of 162-40-1 (.801) for the year.  It doesn’t get any easier as only two weeks remain in the 2023 regular season.  Here are the Dramatic Discerner’s prodigious prognostications for week 8 which is really week 9.

Central Bucks South (8-0) @ Central Bucks West (8-0) – It’s always nice to see some new blood so to speak, so hats off to the Titans of C.B. South.  The Titans are a run first team, but don’t sleep on their pass game.  Anthony Leonardi and Corey Moore are the mainstays at running back.  Leonardi has 998 yards and 8 TDs rushing, while Moore has scored 12 times via the ground.  The Bucks of C.B. West are led by Conor McFadden.  He is a danger whenever he touches the ball, even on defense as he returned an interception last week 97 yards to the house.  Both teams’ defenses have only allowed 64 points, so look for a low scoring game.  Protime flipped his coin.  C.B. West 10 C.B. South 7.

McGuffey (6-2) @ South Park (6-2) – Both squads love to run so line play will be even more important in this game.  McGuffey has a little more balance in the running game with Dylan Droboj leading in yards gained and 7 touchdowns.  The Eagles of South Park depend a lot on the #2 runner in the WPIAL.  Eric Doerue has gained 1,242 yards and scored 11 touchdowns for his team.  Protime consulted the crystal ball for this one.  South Park Eagles 21 McGuffey Highlanders 14.

Canton (8-0) @ Milton (7-1) – District 4 is the site of this slobber knocker.  The visiting Warriors are led by quarterback Ben Fitch with his 902 passing yards and 644 rushing yards.  He’s thrown for 8 touchdowns and he has run for 8 touchdowns.  RB Michael Davis has scored 13 times.  Hudson Ward heads up the defense and has tackled a whopping 119 ball carriers in just 8 games.  The Black Panthers counter with a pretty good QB of their own in Cale Bastian.  He has tossed 9 TD passes and rushed for another 9.  Chris Doyle leads a pride of running backs with 747 yards and 9 scores in the 7 games he’s played in.  Another coin flip and Protime has the #3 single A team in PA (Canton) winning a close one over a good 4A team (Milton) 20-13.

Minersville (7-1) @ Schuylkill Haven (7-1) – Here’s a must-see game out of District 11 featuring a pair of state honorable mentions.  As goes Luke Stevenosky so goes the Battlin’ Miners.  Stevenosky has traversed football fields for 1,722 yards to date and has scored 27 touchdowns.  He averages 9.8 yards a touch.  QB Dante Carr will throw to keep the opposition off balance.  He’s pitched the pigskin for 797 yards and 9 TDs.  Cade Schultz leads the Miners in tackles.  The homestanding Hurricanes are a running team led by Aiden Myers and Niko Caresta.  Myers has garnered 1,032 yards and Caresta 772.  Myers has 10 touchdowns running the ball and Caresta 11.  Travis Richie is the leading Hurricane tackler.  The crystal ball says Minersville 22 Schuylkill Haven 21 in a dandy.

The Others:

Central (Martinsburg) 28 Clearfield 24 – Protime hates picking against the Bison for the 4th straight week.  They are a really good football team led by new coach Myles Caragein, but his crystal ball had the Scarlet Dragons winning 3 out of 4 times by the average score of 28-24.  (BTW, Clearfield won 2 of the past 3 weeks!)

Steelton-Highspire 48 Trinity 42 – The #1 single A team, the Steel High Steamrollers, win a wild one against the #8 AA team, the Shamrocks of Trinity.

Cambridge Springs 33 Mercer 26 – Mercer upset Lakeview last week, but the Blue Devils will not let that happen to them.  In a good game, Cambridge Springs tops the Mustangs by seven.

Palmerton 40 Tamaqua 30 – Protime has also picked against the Blue Bombers (he loves that nickname) this year, so he found an opportunity to pick them at the expense of the Tamaqua Blue Raiders.

Pine-Richland 35 Woodland Hills 27 – The Rams may be on a roll just like last year.  Time will tell.  Latest Ram victim will be the Wolverines who are having a really good year in their own right.

Southern Columbia 42 Wyoming Area 28 – The Tigers are not happy about losing to Mt. Carmel last week.  They take it out on the unbeaten Wyoming Warriors.

Oil City 36 Titusville 26 – Both teams are 5-3, but the Oilers have an Ethen Knox and the Rockets don’t.

Pope John Paul II 34 Phoenixville 21 – The Golden Panthers go to 9-0 by handing the Phoenixville Phantoms only their second loss.

Brookville 38 Punxsutawney 34 – Punxsy won the Route 36 Trophy Game last year, but Brookville’s Blue Raiders defeat the Chucks and retake the trophy.

Schuylkill Valley 22 Annville-Cleona 21 – The Panthers edge the Dutchmen in an exciting game.

South Side 26 Union 20 – This might be an upset, but Protime’s crystal ball says no.  The Rams stay unmarked (9-0), while the Scotties suffer their second setback.

Dallas 24 Wilkes-Barre 20 – Good one up in District 2 sees the Mountaineers upping their record to 9-0 by eking out the triumph over the Wolfpack.

Berlin 33 North Star 20 – A good night to be named the Mountaineers.  The Berlin Mountaineers take care of business by slipping past the Cougars.

Souderton 17 Upper Dublin 14 – The Indians remain unbeaten as they are a field goal better than the Cardinals on this night.

Danville 35 Hollidaysburg 24 – Protime thinks this will be close, but in the end, the Ironmen pull out the victory over the Golden Tigers.

Parkland 42 Easton 24 – Parkland’s Trojans stay unblemished with the win over the Red Rovers.

Knoch 21 East Allegheny 17 – Protime thinks this one may have a fantastic finish as the Knights out duel the Wildcats.

Dallastown 31 Spring Grove 27 – The Wildcats are victorious in this one as they duck the Rockets.

Richland 35 Chestnut Ridge 28 – The second-ranked Rams (AA) win by the same score for the second week in a row.  This time the victim is the Lions who will put up a real fight like the Bison did last week.

Garden Spot 28 Elizabethtown 8 – The Spartans take down the Bears as expected.

Huntingdon 13 Bellefonte 6 – A low-scoring game finds the Bearcats getting their second win while the Red Raiders fall to 0-9.

DuBois 28 Moniteau 21 – This one is for Protime’s buddy Shane whose alma mater is Moniteau he thinks.  Anyhow, the Beavers notch a win over the pesky Warriors.
